How to get people to read threads

Is there some kind of knack? Whenever I make a post asking for advice I'm lucky to get one reply, and it's rarely helpful. Am I doing something wrong? People are always so helpful on MFP but I've not seen it for myself yet...

yes! by making the topic boring!
you gotta tease people and make them want more! and then wahhhlahh! your thread will be read!!
easy peasy!0 -
It just depends. Try bumping your own thread 2 or 3 times. There are a lot of threads that get created. You might be doing it at a time when not many are on or at a time that so many are getting created that your thread gets buried.0

the title has a lot to do with it0

I'm with you, I don't often make threads. When I do, very little if any responses. ..0

it's all about the topic and the wording,,, yeah if you put the word "boobs" in the topic headline you will get people to look at it but not sure that is the way to go,,,lol0

If you want guys to read and reply , Type "WOMAN ONLY" :bigsmile:0

yep that too and don't put my journey in the title0 -
chose your title wisely, make sure that it isnt a repeat of something that's already posted on the same page. make sure you're posting in the right section.
pay attention to the day and time you are posting. there are times when there are less people on which obviously means you'll get less responses0 -
"Naked pictures inside."0

I only posted one topic and no one responded so I'm not the one to ask apparently. Good luck!0

Title, time/day, and comment after an hour if you don't get too many responses.0

you say something like "men are better" or "women can not" and you will get about 50 responses from the lady's but then it get's locked out by the site moderators.0 -

You could also try the not very subtle sexual innuendo technique, which seems so popular here. Usually good for at least a few dozen responses. Most of them are pretty stupid though.
Topic - "My boyfriend never gets hard'
Body - "....boiled eggs. And I love them. How do you like you eggs cooked?"0 -
Type "I am not looking to offend anyone but ..." in the title.0

I have noticed the same thing - I have now joined several MFP groups that are dedicated to the topics about which I tend to post. I hope this will help. Can't take any more rejection.... :frown:0

If you're asking something that has been asked 18,000,000 times, at least three times a day, you might not get responses. Try a search first. I've found, to be honest, if your question is diet or fitness related, it's already been asked and answered, so just use the search tool to find your answer. If it is a unique question, then use some of the catchy titles suggested above.0

voila* :grumble:
Anyway, I agree that if you ask a question that's been asked a million times before, people will likely not be bothered to answer. The search function is your friend.
Read the boards, pay attention, interact more, talk to people, be creative. It's easy to see which people are the most knowledgeable/helpful after you've read through enough things here.0 -
Where are you - Scotland? I've found that the vast majority of users on MFP are in the US, and so the time of day that you post a question will be the biggest factor in getting responses.
Also, I tend not to look at threads that are just called "Help" or "question" (unless I'm really really bored....)- who knows what it might be about!0 -
The time when you post it is massively important. So is using a clear or witty title, and NOT asking some variation of a question that comes up twice a day.0
