Reflecting on 2012 and Goals for 2013

Options
I don't have any resolutions but I do have a couple of goals:

Weight: This time last year I was on maintenance (164lb) today I'm at 168lb which isn't bad but I want to get down to 161lb by March - I chose a slightly lower maintenance because whilst 164 is definitely not over weight it doesn't come with a 6 pack either...

Fitness: In 2012 I complete my first Marathon (3h45m), did my first sprint Triathlon and got my 5K down to 20m37s and my Half Marathon down to 1:38:41.

In 2013 I am not doing another marathon - instead I'm doing the 'Rat Race Dirty Weekend' which is a half marathon distance assort course with 150 obstacles - some of which are of world record proportions.

I want to do a couple more sprint triathlons and beat my previous times, plus do my first Olympic distance triathlon.

And, in case you hadn't guessed this one - get that 5K below 20m

With all that out of the way I wouldn't mind scrapping a couple of minutes off the half marathon to get it down to 1:35 but that's bottom of the list...

I'll be picking my target races over the weekend.

Work: I started my current job in late 2011 - so far I'm very happy and building up experience with this technology... I have a 3 year target to being a complete Guru (knowing how to do literally everything the software is capable of): Last year was 'standard functionality' - this year its all about customisation and coding. Additionally, as much of my work is in CIS (Former USSR countries) I want to be able to have a basic conversation in Russian.

Home life: I feel closer than ever to my lovely wife and look forward to spending more time with her and my family and friends in 2013. There are a few friends I didn't see at all last year and I will make a special effort to meet up with them.

Creativity: Last year I wrote a Dr Who script and a Pantomime. (Why?) Because I was bored! In 2013 I would like to set up my music studio again and record at least 1 new song.

On a final note - my motto for 2012 was "Happy and healthy"... which seems to have worked very well. As exercise is now such an integral part of my life I think for 2013 I think I'll go with "If you're not smiling, you're not doing it right"

Happy new year everyone

I put this on my own status, so apologies for repeating it here. Some are health related, others are "mens sana in corpore sano" or cultural aspirations.

    I've set myself 13 targets for 2013:

    1. Run an average of a mile a day (I'll use MapMyRun to track it)
    2. Run a half marathon (Either Lisburn or Belfast)
    3. Eat one vegetarian meal a week
    4. Have 2 nights a week alcohol free. Minimum.
    5. Spend 10 minutes a day training my little dog - there's a gold award to work for!
    6. Say I love you every day.
    7. Visit the Ulster Museum.
    8. Go see Matthew Bourne's Sleeping Beauty (Grand Opera House March)
    9. Join a yoga class.
    10. Cross the Peace bridge in Derry
    11. Tidy my desk. (My home desk, the work one's fairly good)
    12. Enjoy any holidays I take - write a blog with plenty of photos.
    13. Get back under 140 pounds - and stay there!

    My goals for 2013 are:

    1) to complete my own challenge of "run/walk 2013kms in 2013". It's a tough challenge as it's approx 3.5miles per day. I've penciled in quite a few races and charity walks throughout 2013 to keep me motivated with a half marathon in the June to aim for. I did one years ago but I'm really out of shape now. I love running but the excuses have just got in the way this year.

(I'm not having a weight loss goal as I believe 1) will help me achieve this without having to obsess about it. I'm hoping that I will automatically start to cut down on any junk food as it will be counter productive to all the exercise.)

    2) Socialise more and hopefully meet Mr Right.
