Stretching those BILLS for MEALS

Any suggestions for smart shopping for healthy foods when you are on a budget?? For example, is it better to buy frozen veggies and etc and prepare soup in bulk, or purchase individual progresso canned soups...?? Hmmmm

Home made anything is better than canned! Frozen veggies are fine, they haven't lost many nutrients during the freezing process, so if time's not an issue, use those to make your own soups.

agreed:) you can freeze homemade soups so they keep longer plus you have the options of keeping sodium and fat content lower and for pennies on the dollar too :)

Frozen veggies, any beans or lentils, canned tomatoes and oily fish, dried fruits, organ meats can all be reasonably priced and are highly nutritious. It's generally cheaper to make your own soups, canned ones tend to be padded out with a ton of peeled white potato - nothing but carbs - they often don't contain that much in the way of vegetables.

Great. I have a crock pot and a George Forman. I'm going to prepare all of my meals for the week, bc when I'm starving I tend to go for the quickest which is often times the stuff packed with preservatives.
