Are you eating back exercise calories? Based on personal experience, exercise can sometimes depress my appetite the day of, and then I'll be ravenously hungry the next day. Oh, also, if you aren't getting enough of some nutrient, that can manifest itself as hunger.

Because 800 calories isn't enough for an adult.

MFP recommends a minimum of 1200.

No, that's not the way MFP works. Your deficit is already built into your day. When you exercise you make the deficit too large (check out your "NET" calories). You should be NETTING at the very least 1200 cals a day.

800 cals a day is not enough, not eating back exercise calories puts you deeper in the nutrition hole.

take a look at this link form helloitsdan. He explains how to set up you calorie target so you get a realistic number that you can live with. 800 calories a day is a not enough to keep you alive and healthy.

lol everyone here is right, 800 is not enough... that being said, I feel the same way you do. Some days I could eat the world and some days I could care less. If I weren't counting and tracking calories, I'd only eat when I was hungry... not because I haven't hit a certain number for the day. Therefore, I don't push myself to up my intake if I'm really not hungry. My body knows what it's doing

You're already at an ENORMOUS deficit! If you ate the minimum MFP recommends you'd still be at a huge deficit. If you don't eat exercise calories back on top of not eating enough you're just wrecking your health. You're hungry for a reason - your body is begging you to feed it. Eat something healthy.

I am really hungry especially in the evenings. I do think you should be eating more than 800 calories though. Hunger doesn't build, and it does go away if you wait it out. I am never hungry in the morning when I wake up.

The deficit was already calculated in when you set up your MFP goals. By exercising, you are creating more of a deficit, which clearly isn't a good idea given how hungry you are.

Think of it like a personal budget. Let's say you have gotten into some debt, and paying it off requires you to save $35 a week. So, you make sure that you have an extra $5 left over each day. Now, you could theoretically save up more than that by cutting expenses elsewhere, paying off your debt faster. But there's a limit to how much you can do that. You still need money for rent, utilities, food, etc. If you try to save too much by cutting from your food budget, you are going to be hungry and unhappy. If you save up so much you can't make rent, you'll get evicted, you won't be able to shower, you will be fired for you job for being stinky, and now you won't even have any income to save up to continue to pay off the debt.

Dieting is kind of like that. You need to cut calories, but if you do too many, you'll be unhappy, and if you do way too many, it's counterproductive.

I hope that made sense. :flowerforyou:

With only 15 lbs to lose your deficit should only be 250 calories. So you can probably lose at 1700-2100 calories. Eating 800 will only cause you to lose muscle, keeping you flabby and never reaching your ideal body image.

No one is saying anything about anorexia. All I suggested is that you look at your calorie counter on your news feed page. At the top, on the far right are the words "net calories". What are you netting every day? If it is less than 1200 you are in too deep of a deficit. Does that make sense?

You are feeling hungry because you are starving yourself - 800 calories a day for an 18 year old is so unhealthy.
There is absolutely no need to do that to successfully lose weight.

Strongly suggest you start afresh, reset your goals to a 1lb a week loss and eat the NET calories recommended.

Your initial post : "some days i can go be fine with 800 calories and somedays (today) I'm frikkin starving all day!' makes everyone looking at it think you're trying to sustain on 800 calories a day. Don't blame us for you not giving us all the information.

Bottom line: frikking eat if you're hungry, just make good choices.

You need to eat the calories you are burning in exercise. And some doctors go as low as 800 Calories, what my doctor will say is... "if your hungry eat! if your moody, dizzy, headache.... EAT!" Do you take any appetite suppressants? If not then you may consider one. Depends on what your doc says. 800 is low unless you started close to goal, 1200 calories a day is pretty good. As a tool there is a BMH on here and it tells you what you are burning at a rest. Good luck... My advice is EAT> Don't gorge, but eat something small and healthy.

    Cheers!

Also your body doesn't work on a 24 hour clock. It's more of a sliding scale. If you're eating 800 cals/day after days you've exercised, you're going to be hungry, because your body wants those calories to rebuild itself or it's going to source your lean muscle mass to feed itself for the energy expenditure you aren't giving back to it. But if you're eating 800 cals/day after days where you've had like 2000 cals, then your body has more energy available for it to consume and you are left feeling not hungry. If you're eating 1200 - 800 cals/ day, exercising on top of that, you should be hungry all the time. As what everyone else has said, the best way to curb hunger is to eat when you're hungry and stop when you're full. Your body will thank you.

For the whole eating under a 1000 calories, look...you are going to do what you want but check out the link below at some of the stories of people who thought it was okay (especially because they weren't "feeling" hungry a lot of times) but ended up regretting it. These links are just information to give you options. I'm not preaching or trying to tell you or anyone what is the "right way"...just throwing some info your way is all.

If you want, check out this link by MFPer Heliotsdan - http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/654536-in-place-of-a-road-map-2-0-revised-7-2-12

It'll give you a detailed walkthrough (with pictures even) on finding your TDEE and calculating what you should be eating.

Also, if you are worried about the calorie intake, I also suggest you read this thread that has numerous people who met their goals and are maintaining. Some for years and they also provide their calorie intake and how often they work out.

Hey, you're 18 years old. Don't get on the yo yo merry go round. If you set yourself up to eat too few calories now, you will pay later. Take care of your body. Feed it to fuel your workouts. Don't listen to people telling you to take appetite supressants. Unless you have been ill all your life, your body is better prepared to lose that 30 pounds than it will ever be again. If you starve yourself (and I'm not saying anorexia - I'm saying you're not feeding your body what it need to operate efficiently) then you will be here when you are 54 like me. Still trying to lose the same pounds and the ones that always add on after another starvation diet fails.

If you're going off to college, you're smart. Do a little research and find out what your body need to operate and what deficit of calories will let you lose fat without compromising your muscle. Good luck.

Try drinking some water next time you feel hungry, and see if that helps.

Some foods seem to create a hunger feedback loop. For example - eating sugar will make me ravenous for the rest of the day. so I save it for a bedtime snack. I now suspect that grains do the same thing to me.
