Advice for cutting/leaning out?

I was seeing a trainer who told me while I'm cutting in not allowed dairy, fruit, almond milk, anything sugar free, no nuts, no popcorn & only green vegtables. To me this seems extreme, I thought as long as you eat clean you can shed fat & lean out. But I could be totally wrong so I wanted to get some opinions from those who have experience with these types of diets to let me know what I should & should not be eating right now. Thanks!

Is this a short term cut before a competition, or something longer term?0

Sounds like a competition diet. You don't need to go that extreme unless you're doing a figure or bikini-type competition. Not sure I could last one single day on a diet that restrictive.0

You don't need to go that extreme even if you're competing, IMO.0 -

Totally unnecessary and restrictive. Ignore your trainer for nutrition advice (they generally have no training in the field) and to be honest, if they are that misinformed I would be concerned about their knowledge of fitness in general and start looking for another trainer.0

You should also re-read some of the advice given to you by members on your other post. You had the very same queries. From what I'd read there, your trainer even denies you Almond milk for breakfast with your oatmeal. Extremely restrictive.0 -

Well, that's a relief, cuz I was gonna lose a lot of sleep over this tonight <she says as the bacon sizzles in the frying pan>0 -

The last 6 weeks of a bodybuilding competition diet is pretty frigging restrictive though, no? The people I know who compete eat crazy, crazy strict when it's close to competition time. It's so brutal it boggles my mind how they do it honestly. Personally, I like Skittles too much to even contemplate what the OP is talking about.0 -
Yes, exactly why I said "was" seeing her. I decided not to use her services & just do this in my own thru research & getting advice here from people who have more experience than me.0

Sounds deficient in nutrients and therefore unhealthy. Find a personal trainer who has studied nutrition modules at degree level or a registered dietician who specialises in sports nutrition.0 -

Exactly like I know I shouldn't be eating cookies & pizza if I want to lean out lol. But I don't see the harm in things like berries, cottage cheese & almond milk. Which are foods that I normally eat daily.0 -

Nice call. Some trainers work with nutritionists. If you can't find one that does, I'd suggest investing working with one as well as a trainer0 -

The diet plan I was given only allows fish, chicken, oatmeal, brown rice, sweet potatoes, egg whites, protein shakes & green vegtables.0 -

for a cutting diet, for a limited amount of time like for cutting, there is nothing wrong with this at all.
It's funny how all these people are telling you to dump your trainer when he/she probably has more information than they do.
yet they tell you that the trainer has no nutrition education. wonder how many of these folks here have any?0 -
One rule to leaning out, it's NOT about food choices. It's about calories. Burn more than you consume and you'll lean out.
NOT true at all. to really lean out you need to cut water. to cut water you cut carbs.0 -

You're right, cut carbs eating at my TDEE and i lost 50lbs.
this thread is about leaning out for a competition...not about you Pu. Sorry.0 -
the topic title did not ask about losing weight
it asked about cutting/leaning out
"leaning out" is a term usually used for photo shoots or competitions or something like that0 -
OP: just to clear it up, although as you have not mentioned it so most people assumed that you are not. Are you cutting for a comp?0

Sorry, I'm not a fitness model. I wish though lol!0 -

No, not at all. My goal is to get my body fat low & be very cut up. But I'm not competing or anything.0 -
Thanks! It was a very good read!0
