Talk to your doctor about the your Anemia. For blood low blood sugars, EAT! Don't go long periods without eating something. ANYTHING.0 -
How is you vitamin B12 and Vitamin C intake? Both is needed to help absorb iron and if you are deficient in those as well then taking a iron supplement will be pretty much useless.0

Some foods that are rich in iron: cream of wheat, blackstrap molasses, eggs, lentils, beans, spinach. Make sure you also eat vitamin C rich foods to help with the absorption of non-meat iron foods. Plus limit your caffeine intake. That too can deplete iron levels.

See your doctor. In the meantime small frequent eating will help with keeping your blood sugar stable and help with weight loss. Make sure you have some protien with each mini-meal. Good luck!0

I want to encourage you to do what is best for your body.
If you are seriously dealing with anemia and low blood sugar you should be having this conversation with a doctor and a nutritional specialist. In the meantime the advice you've gotten hear regarding eating regular small meals and taking supplements are good ones. (Meantime means you call to make an appointment TOMORROW and you have a few days before you get to see a professional who can assess your situation.)
I am someone who has been unwilling to eat certain things for decades because they didn't appeal to me (and I ate a lot of things that appealed to me but didn't work well for me) until this year. Now I eat what my body needs to do well. It's amazing to me that within a few weeks I had loved what the foods did for my body and learned to enjoy them because of that.0 -
Have you seen a registered dietician? Red meat is not necessarily the best nor the only source of haem iron and you need other nutrients in your diet to absorb it. There are valuable amounts of haem iron in many oily fish, organ meats like liver which can easily be disguised in cooking, dark turkey meat, and so on. Also taking tablespoons of sugar is the fastest way to triggering a rush of insulin which will actually have your blood sugar plummeting again so I don't really understand why this was recommended. The blood can only hold about a teaspoon of sugar at any one time.
Do you eat a balanced diet generally, from all the food groups and the full rainbow of colours of fruit and veggies? Have you tried a low glycaemic index diet? Are you maintaining a healthy weight (not low or high)? Why are you cutting down on fatty foods, your body needs fat for health and for successful weight training and muscle building? Who is advised you on this diet, do they have degree level qualifications so they are qualified to advise someone with a preexisting health complaint? What are you replacing the fatty and sugary foods with, protein powders?0 -
Most vegetables, such as spinach, that are rich in iron, actually inhibit the body's ability to absorb it. There aren't a whole lot of easily processed iron sources available outside of meat.0

I get most of my iron from Marmite with butter on wholemeal toast, with pineapple juice. Just in case you're in the "love it" camp.0
