Anyone know where I get these Shirataki Noodles (Tofu noodles, evidently...)?

Anyone have any info on them at all? I'd love to know about taste especially.

Thanks in Advance

I was thinking the same thing yesterday!

I saw them in the refrigerated vegetarian section at Whole Foods recently. I thought about trying them but ended up not picking them up. I'm still interested in trying them still though.

I buy them at a small Chinese Market near my house. I have seen them in one of our chain markets for twice the price.

Here's what I found... I've been looking for them too....but never thought to look in the refridgerated section.....

    Where to Find Them:
More Asian grocery stores carry shirataki noodles under one of the names above. They are also getting easier to find in areas with fewer Asian people. The Safeway near me carries them (in the refrigerator case near the bagged salad greens), as well as health food stores. They will always be in a refrigerated case.

They are usually with the vegetarian options in the refigerated section. They are very good...they absorb the flavors of whatever else you cook them with...just like tofu. They are actually a blend of yam flour and soy. Very tasty.

I bought them, but after I read tons of comments on the Hungry Girl Fan page on FACEBOOK I threw them out, I heard they are just awful!

I'll assume that you didn't actually try them. You should...I'll also assume that the reviews that you read were from people who are not used to cooking with tofu and are not vegetarian or vegan. Right there is the problem...they have no clue as to how to cook with them properly.

No I didnt try them. People said they couldnt even eat them because they couldnt get past the smell even though they rinsed them repeatedly.

Even better than those tofu noodles, try the website www.miraclenoodle.com These are noodles made from a water soluable plant base. No calories, no carbs, nothing. And they take on the flavor of whatever you cook with them. They are great! I've been using them for months and they help me control my hunger and feel full without the extra calories!

They could have bought a bad batch- you have to check the dates (they do stink if they are close to the experation date). Also, it depends on what brands you buy. If you buy them in an asian market they will be fresh and have no smell...the ones in the gocery stores have probably been sitting there a while.

How do some of you use them, recipes, and such? I did see them for the first time in the Healthy Foods section in one of the local grocery stores. I picked up the package and realized these were the ones I'd heard so many talk about. I don't have any ideas on using them though.

Would someone share some of their cooking ideas for using them?
    :flowerforyou: Thank YOU!

So...if I do find them, what do I expect? I was actually wondering if I could use them in the place of pasta noodles in spaghetti (and if I could get it by my 4 yr old!)

I've read to rinse them & boil slightly (whatever boil slightly means...hmm...)

    Any advise?
    Thanks

BTW I've never cooked with Tofu so assume I have no idea what you are talking about when you explain to me please...I want to learn & I want to acquire the taste, but I've never even tried tofu! I'm a meat & potatoes gal, but I'd like to venture out!

Checked out the website. Says it is made with Glucomannan which is actually in Shirataki noodles, so it's close to what I'm looking for. Thanks for the site. If I can't find them locally I'll see if I can order from there.

 Ha, aha, ha HA...Vet does a little dance! (did that just burn cals?)

    FOUND THEM

    And

    LOCALLY!

    At the Asian Market!

After calling every specialty grocer in town!

And, they are about 5 mi from work! PERFECT!

Now if I only knew what to do with them...

P.S. Also, when I pulled up the miracle noodle site, the tab at top of IE says Shirataki Miracle Noodle Shop, so I'm assuming (cautiously of course) that those are one in the same of what I'm after!
