Diet and Exercise Plans??

I'm in need of some Diet and exercise plans. I'm new, don't know where to start. I need something pretty simple for because I am new and haven't dieted or exercised in a LONG time. I also need something that's effective (obviously), something that works, and doesn't take forever to see results. I'm not looking for an instant slimmer, just something that works. Thanks, anything helps

first thing to remember is Diets do not work, they lead to failure. next is pretty simple, eat the number of calories a day that MFP set up for you and you will lose weight. exercise is nice but weight loss happens in the kitchen. Any and all exercise will help your overall health and fitness level, move as much as possible. There are no magic pills no quick fix diets. Good luck to you and welcome to MFP.0

I agree with Tony, it's about calorie intake. For me it was changing my foods to a healthier choice and portion control...ie changed 110cal sliced bread to 35cal sliced bread, not having double helpings at meals and really choosing what and when I eat not just an eating machine during my waking hours. You dont have to give up the food you love. My friends on here call me the Fast Food King, but you do have to make better choices at these places...ie thin crust pizza, taking the top bun off a Wendy's spicy chicken sandwich, small or no french fries. One more thing on food and MFP...LOG EVERYTHING, I think this is what is different for me than any other time. It shocked the hell outta me to see exactly how many calories I was consuming on a daily basis by logging it...It was right there on "paper". Now exercise...just get up and start moving!! As a former couch potato, I believe this is so important. To start with it doesnt have to be anything structured...structure can come later. In the beginning, it all can be overwhelming a bit, but it can and does get easier. I stated my journey on Aug 27 2012...I thought this was going to be like every other time, but something has "clicked" this time and I hope it does for you also.0

Portion control is a great start - as is looking at the serving sizes/nutritional info on whatever it is you are eating. Logging religiously makes that a habit and you'll be able to get a much better idea of what you're actually eating.
I have only cut out two things - soda (and that was after spending two weeks before simply reducing my soda intake) and kids cereal. (I can eat almost a box a day myself.) Everything else - chocolate, fast food, pasta - I still eat, just in smaller portions. This is much more a simple concept for me to understand and keep up on rather than trying to overhaul my entire diet at once.
Exercise can be a little trickier - I started by doing a beginner's Pilate workout via Youtube. A week later I added the treadmill four times a week. And I don't try to jog the entire 30 minutes - that's too much for me. I walk mostly with one minute jog intervals. I try to push a few seconds longer everyday, but I'm okay with building up. As I get stronger, I will be able to go further. Slow and steady changes win the race.
It doesn't have to be complicated. I've tried doing radical changes before and always found it too hard to keep up.0 -
