Couch to 5k

I'm starting to the couch to 5k program again. I had originally started the program last June, outside in a cemented off area in the woods so no one could see me running. I found it very stressful on my knees and ankles to the point where I had to stop after only getting to week three, sigh. I tried doing one session on a treadmill and found it a lot easier on my joints. Guess this happened since I'm overweight and my body wasn't use to the stress on the joints. Will doing this program on a treadmill have the same results in the end as if I were doing this out on the open road? I'm doing it mainly for weight loss in the end, and plan on jogging and working towards higher goals once I'm done the program. Does anyone have any success stories from using the couch to 5k program?? On my days in between the program, I'm going to be doing the biggest loser weight loss yoga DVD to help increase my metabolism and flexibility.
