Things I've done in 1 year on MFP:

Things I've accomplished in 1 year on MFP:
1. Lost over 100 pounds.
2. Was diagnosed and then went on to beat diabetes.
3. Taken off of blood pressure meds.
4. Taken off of cholesterol meds.
5. Sugar went from 347 to below 100.
6. Went from barely walking 1 mile to running 10+ per week.
7. Ran my first 5K and became a runner.
8. Went from pant size 44 to 34.
9. Went from shirt size XXL/XXXL to L.
10. That BOOTS to *kitten* works.
I don't typically take time to step back and realize what I've done, but I am proud of myself. I know that if I can change my life, anyone can. It's all in the mind. The willpower to make the right choices comes from within yourself. If you can find it, you can change your life.
Cheers to even more success in 2013.

I started 2012 with a plan and stuck with it through everything.
I'm hoping folks starting out in 2013 with their own plan can read this and know it is possible.0 -

Sure! I'm not sure if this is the best route to take, but my opinion is that you can accomplish more with running simply based on becoming more fit. For me, I started over 300lbs just walking in the treadmill at about 3.5 and I would do varied incline. As I continued to lose weight I would gradually go faster until I decided to try jogging for .25 miles and walking for .25 miles, alternating. I then built up to 1/2 miles alternating, etc. This was all on the treadmill. I then decided, since I always focused on the calories and distance screen, to cover it up and just jog for as long as I could. I ended up around 2.5 miles which proved to me that I could do more. So I built up the intervals until I was running a mile straight.
Once the weather got nicer I hit the road. For me I much prefer running outside to the treadmill. I built up my distance slowly running about 4 times per week. I continued to lose weight which in turn helped with my running. It all went hand in hand. I should add that I lifted weights during this entire period as well, which I strongly suggest. In addition, proper running shoes are a must. I fought through plantar fasciitis and lots of pain before getting all of that straight.
I finally decided to sign up for the local race in my town. I ran the course several times on my own beforehand and set a goal. I wanted to run it in under 35 mins. On race day I felt prepared and just decided I was going to give it my best shot. I finished in 29:11.
I dunno if this answers your question completely, but just stick with it. Get some good shoes, keep losing weight and keep trying. You'll make it!0
