Falafel recipe

sure, 500g chickpeas, soaked, cooked and drained or just drained if its a tin
blitz in a food processor but not for ages, you want a rough consistency
Mix with
a **** load of cumin
a **** load of coriander powder
some fresh coriander
about a half tsp salt n pepper
a chopped onion
some garlic powder (about a tblspoon
mix all together and throw in an egg, mix that round and form into falafal sized balls
helps if you put them in the fridge a bit to set
then deep fry for 3 mins on very very very hot (make sure the oil is hot before you put it in or it will soak into the balls nad make them unhealthy)
Yummy with hummus, salad and pitta.0 -
Does anybody have a quick and easy Falafel (spelling sorry) recipe thats not too high in calories?

I've found that if you use a blender, you may omit the need for eggs as a binder. Instead of deep frying, oven fry them or just bake them. Have a look at the attached link and see if her recipe is to your liking.

FeebRyan, that looks like a really good recipe, thanks! I swear no matter what though, every time I have ever attempted to make falafel on my own, it's a disaster! Being in New York and all, I live near so many great falafel places that I always tend to forget trying to make it myself.
eta: The idea of deep frying anything though seriously freaks me out! In the past I've tried to just bake them in a baking pan with olive oil, maybe that's why they never came out right!0 -
Oven them don't fry them. I had some the other day with some grated carrot in the mix, so that would also work well.
If you make them patty shaped rather than balls it might be easier, that way you just flip them 1/2 way through, less fiddling, so less chance of falling apart maybe.

That could very well be it@olive oil or not. Possibly subsidising it with peanut/canola oil to lightly coat the baking pan to ovenfry as recommended by Gemma/Zylahe, then flattening the balls some to pattie-size as advised by Zylahe, will greatly reduce the failed baked falafels. It's quite temperamental, sensitive to temperature to be baked at a maximum of 15 mins per side.0 -

Or if you own a healthy deep fryer like a Hammacher Schlemmer you could cut the cals that way using only 2 Tbsp of oil.0
