Is trying to loose 20lbs by May a realistic goal? Is it too long of a time period?

For your weight and the small (relatively speaking) amount of weight you need to lose, I would say this goal is too aggressive. You are looking at roughly 10 weeks until the beginning of May. I don't mean to sound negative, but realistically, I'd think you could lose 8-10 lbs at most.

    I think 10 lbs is possibly do-able.

I'm probably not a good person to comment on what is a good goal. I try not to put an end date on my goals, because if I miss that target date I am too harsh on myself over my "failure". Striving to lose weight and have good health is never a failure, so I remove that negative aspect from my own weight loss.

Plus, I'm not eating well right now. I'm admitting, I AM A SLACKER RIGHT NOW.

Leaving it to the other members to post about eApps last question..... 10 lbs by May seem feasible???

I've got about 15lbs I want to lose before May. It's completely possible, but you have to be dedicated to it and not give up easily, which seems to be a problem for you, hun.

If you stick with it, you can do it. But keep in mind that it will take some type of exercise EVERY SINGLE DAY and a healthy, high-protein diet. No chips, sodas, or fried foods. You'll be eating salads, grilled chicken and veggies, and drinking oodles of water. 5-6lbs a month can be done, but with dedication and careful monitoring.

I also believe you're pretty petite--maybe 5'2"? I'm 5'8" and 157lbs. 5lbs isn't as big a deal for me. 5lbs is a larger percentage of your body weight. Your body may not want to drop those pounds and you're going to have to fight every step of the way. But if YOU think you can do it, then you probably can. Motivation and perseverance, my friend.

And yes--with your height, weight, and tendency to "fall off the bandwagon"--I think 8-10lbs is a more reasonable goal.

Thanks everyone for your input!! I really appreciate it! So I'm aiming to loose 10 pounds by May!!!
  • They say 1-2 pounds a week is realistic. That doesn't seem like much until you put it on paper. Twenty pounds in 10 weeks is doable but the closer you are to your ideal weight I think the harder it will be. Don't trust me on that though- it's been 20+ years since I have been at my ideal weight though.

I too need a goal date and I think if you feel you need one then make one. I chart my progress on a spreadsheet with a graph- the visusal line graph helps me see my progress.

    Good luck!

I started out here at 137 pounds hoping to get down to about 123-125 pounds. I have been on here for a full year and am still at the 10 pounds lost mark. When you don't have much to lose it is going to take a loooooooooooooooong time to see the number on the scale that you want. I think you should start focusing more on fitness goals. I could stay at 127 pounds for the rest of my life and be completely happy as long as I continue to get more fit and in shape.

End or beginning of May? You are probably already within your ideal body weight for your height so I would say it would be really difficult. Maybe you should try toning instead of losing weight - eat lots of protein and do strength training. That would make you look and feel better without having to starve yourself
