I want to develop healthy habits

Hi!

I recently splurged on a smart phone and found MFP while looking for fitness aps. I've been using it for a couple of weeks and finally got online and found the social aspect of the site.

I set my weight loss goal at the top end of my recommended weight for my height (150 lbs and I'm 5'5"). I haven't been below that weight since before I got pregnant with my third child - who is now 13. I will probably lower my goal once I reach the current goal but I'll take it one step at a time. It would be a loss of 20 lbs which may not sound like much but no amount of calorie restriction seems to help me lose much. What does help is exercise! I almost reached my goal of 150 lbs five years ago after exercising steadily for 30 minutes a day five days a week for a year and a half. Then I went through some hard times at home, a divorce, and stopped exercising and gained back everything I'd lost.

I recently got an Xbox Kinect, and that has made it so convenient and easy to start exercising again that I've managed to do at least 45 minutes of cardio five days a week for the last three weeks. That has left me feeling like I can do this again. More than the weight loss my worries are my health. I've been told I'm pre-diabetic and that exercise could delay onset of diabetes. I also have little stamina and have a goal to be able to finish an hour of exercise class without having to take a break. I can walk a good distance with no problems, but at a higher energy output like my zumba game I can only get through 2-3 songs without a break.

It would be nice to have a fitness buddy to touch base with frequently so we can help each other stay on track and share ideas and stories and even recipes. One of my daughters is vegetarian, and so I mostly cook vegetarian. Unfortunately I snack too much on junk food and need to work on cutting that out. I also have asthma, and am medicated to keep it under control but I still have a hard time with high impact activities. I love yoga!
