Today, I am not just chubby....

..... I am medically, moribidly obese. For those of you who do not know, that means I am 100lb over my "ideal" weight. While I may never reach my medical ideal, I am no where near any type of ideal right now.
My husband and I have been each other's worst enemies, allowing all sorts of cheats, excuses and reasons to over eat and make poor food choices. We've allowed each other to be in denile about our actual bodies and our state of health.
However.....
I am hardly in any photos at all with my two children (even when they were babies) because I can not stand the way I look in photos
It's getting harder and harder to find clothes that will fit me
I can't walk up the 4 flights of stairs to get to my apartment with out getting very winded (and chose to take the elevator instead)
I herniated a disc a few years ago. With the addition of 20-30 lbs since then I have gone from some back pain to constant back AND knee pain
So, while in the last year we've gotten accustome to whole foods (my kids have food allergies), and have grown to like things like flax, oatbran, and raw veggies (dear husband), it is time to take this to the next level. We're doing reduced carbs and a junk food/sugar cleanse for hub (higher caloric intake though, as he is in heavy contruction). I've already ditched sugar, but need to control caloreis, carbs, and portions (I've justified that since it was home made I could eat as much as I wanted).
Well, that is my novel of how I got fat, and what I plan to do with it. I will include excercising as I can (I have some paralysis from my back injury, and need to be careful of my spinal allignment at all times). Hopefully in a month or so I will be down enough weight to be able to move more easily, and then we'll see how it goes.
I don't need any kudos, but a kick in my jiggly butt once in a while will probably be needed.
Cheers if you read this all.

I read it all... and I feel for you. It's a slippery slope, and a dangerously gradual one at that... one day you wake up and you realize OMG what have I done to myself!
Thing is this!
CONGRATULATIONS!
You have FINALLY woken up! :drinker:
Now you need to make the decision to STAY awake. To make a goal. To make a plan. AND to stick with it.
I am high up on my friends count, or I'd offer to be the one to kick you in the *kitten*... but :blushing: I tend to miss out on pushing people if they're not actively logging / posting, just because my day is full and I'm not able to be on and touching base with everyone. That said, I'd totally accept a request from you if you want.
I BELIEVE that you can do this if you decide now that this is what you want. It will be hard work. It will be challenging and you will want to quit. But if you focus and push through, you'll be amazed at where you end up!0 -
YesI read the whole thing!
I am also 100 pounds over my ideal weight, I have lost 29 pounds so far and am feeling better every day. You can do it, one day at a time is what it takes! You can send me a friend request if you like and we can kick each others butts!0 -
You can do this. I started with 180 pounds to lose. When I started in june I could barely work out. I couldn't make it an hour on the treadmill even at a slow pace, couldn't do more than 5 mins at a speed of 3.0.
Fast forward 6 months or so... I'm nearly 1/3 the way there. No turning back! I can do tough 4 or 5 hour workouts. I ran my first 5k in Dec. I'm signed up for my next one in a couple weeks. Today I ran 4 miles, walked 1 more. I have lost over 50 cumulative inches from neck, waist, hips, chest, under bust, thighs, calves, and upper arms. (I average 10 inches a month loss) I've lost 3 clothing sizes and have gone from 51.7 bmi down to 42.3.
I know I have a long way to go but i've come a long way. Congrats on taking the first step. I know you can do it. Take care and I wish u lots of success.

Step one is always to admit where you are. Step two is to decide to do something about it... Step 3 is to take that first step and that is the biggest one... Step 4 is COMMITTMENT... Keep at it even when the going gets tough... You can do this. Best wishes on your journey.0

i read it! i have seen people on here easily lose 100+ pounds in just 1 years time! so, you can get to your ideal weight, its not impossible. it all depends on how hard you want to work at it, how serious you can be, and how motivated you stay. you can cheat on your eating habits and only log a portion of what your eating, but you only cheat yourself. you can give up and not log at all, but your only giving up on yourself... you can stick to a plan, work hard, and be a completely different person by christmas, but it only takes your willpower and drive! good luck to you, you can do it!!! stay focused, stay motivated, and stay strong! GOD bless!0

Yep I read it all too, congratulations on making the decision to change!! :drinker: :flowerforyou:
I started off with 110lbs to lose and I'm 90 down! Yes this has taken me 2 years (I had a 6 month break last year) but I have done this without a heavy exercise routine, for me it's all been about controlling the calories in. You're already doing great things in terms of eating the right types of food.
You can do this! There will be tough times ahead. You will have times where progress stalls. But just remember that slow and steady wins this race. My golden rules would be:
1 - Log EVERYTHING and log HONESTLY! Weigh out all of your portions to start off with. I was amazed at just how out of control my portion sizes had got when I started this journey. The only person you're cheating if you don't is yourself.
2 - Don't be a slave to the scales! I go to see the nurse at my doctors surgery once a month to get weighed (God bless the NHS!). Personally I think any more often is pointless, you don't need to worry about daily / weekly fluctuations, just the overall trend
3 - Use a tape measure - When you're really big (as I was) seeing those inches come off is a great motivator. There have been months when the scales have bearely moved but the inch loss has been there.
4 - Try and be more active - I hear what you're saying about your health conditions making exercise hard, I too used to have dreadful problems with my knees. But this doesn't have to be 'exercise' - even if you just start off by doing one flight of stairs then getting the elevator up the other three. Or just dance around your kitchen while you're cooking or when you're brushing your teeth, ANYTHING which means you're moving instead of standing still counts. And as you lose, it will get easier and easier. And being more active will become more of a habit. And you will lose more!
Wishing you all the best for your journey ahead

Oh and:
5) don't worry too much about your daily calorie goals - if you use the mobile app you can tap the 'weekly' button at the top and see how over/under you are for the week overall - I find that really helpful. If I do have a day when I go over my calories, I try and make sure that over the course of the whole week, I am still pretty much there or thereabouts on track.
Feel free to add me as a friend if you like, I am not a big 'commenter' or cheerleader, but my diary is open and I always find it useful to pinch food ideas from others  although I'm from the UK and I know we have different names for some foods over here so feel free to ask if you're not sure what something is!!
