Proper sleep to aide in weight loss?

Is it true that getting the proper amount of sleep every night,7-8 hours,aides in helping proper weight loss & metabolism? I sometimes am up until 2 or 3 in the morning. I get less than 5 hours of sleep frequently. I heard part of a radio show,and they mentioned the difference between 5 hours of sleep for weight loss and 7 hours of sleep,is a big difference for your weight loss.
Anybody know more about this,or if it's true? Thanks

For some not getting enough sleep makes them eat more. Also, for some when they don't get enough sleep they get lazy with measuring/weighing their foods/drinks as well as get lazy and don't exercise or don't exercise as well as they would.
If you are staying within your calorie limits and still exercising you will be fine.0 -
Sleep is important to regulate your hormones. As relates to weight management they are Leptin and Grehlin.

Not getting enough sleep puts stress on your body and fatigue effects hormones that regulate hunger. The general recommendation is that an average adult needs at least 6 hours of sleep per night. But, like all other general recommendations, this may vary on an individual basis. Some will need more, some may need less.
Listen to your body and give it the rest it needs. Lack of proper rest can affect other things such as learning and memory as well.0 -
Thanks for the input,very helpful stuff. Besides trying to change my eating habits,it is clear I have to adopt good sleeping habits as well to aide in my weight loss,I am going to shoot for 7 hours a night.0
