*Always over with my carbs*

Hey guys...quick question/poll. I've noticed the past few days (I'm new to the site!) that i've been going under with my calories, fat and protein, however I've been going over in the carb category. I'm not going over by too too much (today, I'm over by 38), but I was curious as to if this is something that will break the bank when it comes to weight loss??

I know that carbs aren't a bad thing, and looking at my food diary most of the carbs are coming from my cup of cereal, the fruit I eat, cup of rice for dinner and then 6 Triscut crackers as a snack. I could take a couple things out, but I'm under in all the other categories and honestly, sometimes you just need some carbs!

**Anyone have any comments about where they come in with their carbs and how this might affect weight loss when all the other categories are under?**

Thanks!

Once in a while no. Routine maybe. I have the same problem with sodium. And it is affecting my weight loss. It's all part of the fight. Just make a few minor adjustments.
  • I would say that the biggest problem is if you aren't hitting your protein I feel that MFP already has a higher carb to protein ratio than I usually try to eat. I try to keep my carbs around 40-45% and my protein closer to 30%. MFP standard recommendation for protein I think is too low... for me anyhow. I lose better and feel more full with the 30% protein.

How many grams of carbohydrates are you eating a day?

I eat mainly carbs and it's never given me an issue when it comes to weight loss.

SInce you just started, I'd say give it a bit of time before freaking out (not that you are now I'm just saying) then figuring it out. Some people have issues with carbs, others don't. Like imchicbad, I have issues with sodium but I watch it and don't go over as much as I would have before joing MFP. Some carbs (like fats) are ok for you. I'm sure you'll have days when you're under since I'm guessing you won't be having what you listed day after day after day.

If you are going over your carbohydrate goals as a result of a cup of cereal, some fruit, a cup of rice, and 6 triscuits, you might need to up your calorie goal!

Cut out the cereal, replace it with eggs or oatmeal.

If you're new, I'd say just wait and see if it inhibits weight loss. If it does, then change it up. I moderate my carbs because it feels like it helps me control my hunger, but everybody is a special snowflake. ;)

If you are in a caloric deficit it will not inhibit weight loss. That being said, depending on your protein and fat intake levels you could have other unwanted things occur --- but you'll still lose weight.

As a first step I'd try to lean toward the complex carbs and see how it goes.
Different things work for different folks.
Adjust and access, readjust and reaccess. I'm constantly rejiggering my diet.
It's all about finding things that will work for the long-term.

    My current approach is:
Make sure at least 80% of my diet is good solid nutrition consisting of:

    Complex Carbs
    "Happy Fats" (Plant- and fish-based)
    Lean proteins.

Watch out for hidden sugars and artificial sweeteners. They increase my appetite and my cravings.
    (I much prefer blatant sugars)
