Calorie Rich, Nutritional Foods

Ok, since I hit the 20 lb mark I've set my goal to be .5 pounds a week. This has lifted my daily calorie intake from about 1400 calories, up to about 1800. Add in exercise calories and I honestly don't have enough to eat. I'm trying to keep from going over on sodium (hypertension runs rampant in my family). So what I need are some snacky foods I can fit in between meals that are high in calories, and preferably protein. I've been ending every day with at least 3-400 calories left and I'm honestly just not that hungry. So I'd like to increase the calorie-richness of the foods that I *am* eating. Um...I see that you always have extra fat left-go for whole milk (if you can handle the thickness of it).
As for the cals...that's a hard one, add in more grains-they are usually high cal/high carb.

Try drinking a Boost drink for Diabetics - it has slow release carbs and 16 gm of protein in 190 calories. 180 mg sodium. Doesn't taste bad cold. Like chocolate milk (and you don't have to be diabetic). If you don't want carbs, just do a straight whey protein drink. I use the chocolate truffle from Bioactive.0

I actually LOVE whole milk. I've just been trying to keep away because it tends to be MUCH higher in sodium, lol.
I'll see about adding a protein drink back in, I think that may help a bit. I just need to get a new blender, hahaha.0 -

That boost stuff needs to be banned, let alone be marketed to Diabetics. It is nothing but trash in a can.
If you want calorie dense foods that are nutritional and have protein, the best things are going to be high in fat. Macadamia nuts are fantastic as well as other nuts. Full fat yogurt with fresh fruit............
If you want a protein drink that is all natural, Jay Robb protein powder is FANTASTIC!!!

What about hummus? I look at your diary for the last few days and didn't see any, so maybe you don't like it, but it's super good for you and a little calorie dense (due to tahini and olive oil). You could also add avocado to your sandwiches. Good luck and congrats on the amazing transformation you've made!0

Another food I love We used to make it in the house but my cheap-o blender and I had a disagreement and uh... yeah. So I've been getting store bought hummus every now and then as a treat food. I do have a huge bag of dried chickpeas, I just need to buy a food processor or blender, lol.0 -
I vote for the avocado. Just had one for lunch and it was deeelish!0

Do you like avocados? They add calories nicely, and healthy fats. Maybe add in some olive oil when you are cooking? Sauteeing vegies or such. Or dip some of your bread in some good olive oil. I see you like almonds, how about walnuts? If you like Dark Chocolate, Hershey's Bliss Dark Chocolate squares are 210 calories for 6 and only 10 mg of sodium. Maybe some of the mayo made with olive oil on sandwiches - I forgot to see what you use on sammies.
Wow, you're asking alot. Extra calories without much sodium! :laugh: That's all I can come up with for now. Oh, fruit spread on bread/toast? Not much sodium there. Good luck! You are a real inspiration.0 -
I think it's time you buy a new blender....you're missing out on too many good foods....protein shakes, hummus, guacamole. Just go get a new one, lol.0
