Hello!
My husband wants to make tacos tonight, but we don't want to use one of those seasoning packets because they usually have a lot of sodium and sometimes preservatives and other yucky stuff. Does anyone have recommendations for seasonings from my pantry that we can substitute?

Thanks in advance!

:-)

    OR....

    Taco Seasoning Mix

If you don't happen to have any of my favorite Frontier brand taco or Mexican seasoning mixes on hand, you can make up one of your own easily.

    2 T Chili Powder
    2 T Flour
    2 t Cumin
    2 t Oregano
    1/2 t Onion Powder
    1/2 t Garlic Powder
    1/2 t Cayenne Pepper

Combine all ingredients in a zip lock bag and shake until completely mixed. Add to browned ground beef along with 1/2-3/4 cup water and cook until reduced to desired consistency.

    Yield: 5 Servings
  • Cumin will really get you that smoky "taco" flavor. Use a mix of that and chili powder. I use the packets, but buy the "low sodium" variety. Much better!!

I also use the low sodium taco mix! We actually just had tacos 2 nights ago, opt for corn tortillas soft or hard, less cals than flour.

Last time I made tacos, I just added homemade salsa to the meat. Worked for me.
