Hey everyone,

I'm a newbie here!

I read about creatine and glutamine being good for weight loss, but I'm not so sure about the creatine part. I'm working out about a half our a day (circuit training) and also do a lot of walking. I want to loose about 30 pounds and tone up. Should I take creatine or skip it?

Skip it and do it the natural way...there are tons of people on here that have lost a significant amount of weight just with diet modification and exercise...myself included! :)

I've been on creatine. I especially wouldn't recommend it for women. The first reason is it's extremely hard on your kidneys. You pretty much have to commit to not drinking alcohol at all when you're taking it. The second reason is it makes you retain a ton of water. This will cause bloating, and immediate weight gain. The third reason, is it's main effective purpose is if you're doing strenuous weight lifting for building muscle. If these are your goals, and you're willing to stay on it for 3 solid months, then go for it. But I'd never take creatine for weight loss. I've really never heard of a woman ever taking creatine before to be honest, but I'm sure body builders do it all the time.

I hope this is helpful to you.
  • I dont know where you got that creatine is good for weight loss but to my knowlege it's not true. From what I've read, creatin will give you the extra push when you're lifting weight, help you build more muscle and muscle will help you burn more fat. But if you're trying to lose weight, you should know that it will slow you're weight loss because of water retention.

Also I would not recommend it if you're not doing any weight lifting, just because it would be a waist of you're money. If you decide to start weight lifting, you dont need to start creatine right away because you'll improve a lot real fast, wait until you hit a plateau.

In conclusion, people should know that creatine is 100% natural, I didn't say safe, but natural. As for beeing safe, it's as safe as aspirin, wich means that some people can be allergic to it, some people wont react to it and if you abuse it, that's when you can develop kidney problems. Do not confuse Creatine and steroïds, steroïds are a syntetic drug and they have undesired side effect that should not be associated with creatine.

As for creatine and women...no problem, if you dont want to get huge just don't eat to get huge....

here's a website that answered a lot of my questions about creatine

    http://www.abcbodybuilding.com/creatine myths and_facts.htm

I would suggest that you get yourself a good proteine powder and a good multi-vitamin with minerals for a start and keep an eye on you're fat/proteine/carb ratio!

    Good luck!!

Thanks everyone! I had read an article about replenishing your body after a work out and that was suggested. After I thought about it and realized it was written by a man, I figured I should look into a bit more.....glad I did!
