Question for car people

So long story short I got backed into and am dealing with insurance companies, I had to take my Volvo over to get an estimate for the damages. Since they weren't too busy they decided to give me a free inspection. They told me that my battery was weak and it died on them. (However they did flip this switch that kills the battery when left on without the engine running. Not sure why, I noticed it on my way home). Anyway they jumped my car and it got home fine. Today went I went to drive it I noticed that my check engine was on, and the car felt like it wasn't getting a lot of power like it usually does.

The light wasn't on before I took it in, so my question is could it be a shady mechanic, related to the battery being jumped, or something more serious. I know it's impossible to know unless I get it checked out, but just wanted to know if anyone has experience with this.

I have a 2001 Volvo V70

I don't know of any switches that kill the battery, you can't turn a car battery on or off. Like you mentioned, no way of knowing what your issue is without running a diagnostics test. So you have been experiencing slower acceleration?

yeah, when I take my foot off the break it's going a lot slower than it did before. I feel like I have to gas it more to get it going

Could be a number of things, possibly the mass airflow sensor or your turbo is going bad/has seized, maybe something else. Like I had mentioned, they'll have to hook it up to a diagnostics tool to see what codes it's throwing to find out what the issue is. If there is an AutoZone near you, go there and ask someone to check it out for you, they will run a diagnostic for you for free and give you a printout of the codes and possible issues.
