Breaking up excercising question

Ok, so what do you all think about excercisng for 10 minutes or 20 minutes a couple times a day and just adding up the calories I burned that way? Does it work the same way? Is it as effective?

    I have heard that's effective as long as you are making it intense to get your heart rate up. If it is just a short leisurely walk, it's better than nothing.
