Anyone new to this in a similar situation as me? I'm 35 with two little ones at home. I just started MFP last night. It seems great!

So far it is great, I joined 2 years ago, but just started actually being active in the community. Their food database is awesome, every food that I ate yesterday, I was able to find in the database, which makes it super easy to log your food, you don't have to guess, or try to keep track of the nutrition on your own.
  • I was really surprised to find everything I ate yesterday in the database! Even a specific K cup type and a type of wine! Guess I have no excuses. I guess what will be the most tedious is figuring out how much of each ingredient I actually use, like when I made shrimp last night I cooked it in olive oil, but I have no idea how much. So I need to track that too. This is really cool though!

I'm in a similar situation. I have three girls, a seven year old, a soon-to-be 5 year old and a soon-to-be 3 year old. The seven year old is in school full time, but the other two go to preschool opposite mornings, so I always have a kid at home with me and I am constantly driving back and forth to preschool. I am having a hard time finding me-time to work out. Additionally, my youngest still doesn't sleep through the night, so I am constantly tired. I would like to lose 25+ lbs. Add me as a friend if you like.
  • I have a five year old in half day kindergarten and a one year old. I too find work out time really hard to carve out. I have a YMCA membership which includes free child care while you work out but my one year old flips out and they have to come get me mid work out. Hoping she can get past that soon.... A friend suggested Jillian Michaels workouts at home. Anyone tried them?

I have the JM 30 Day Shred but I"m embarrassed to say that I haven't opened it yet! And I've had it for over a year...
  • The 30 day shred is one that my friend said was good! I might buy it thu amazon on instant play and give it a go today! Could be terrible with my one year old climbing on me!

Hi! I too am a stay at home mom of 4. When my two oldest (16 and 14) were little I invested in a side by side jog stroller and I walked for my exercise. But two kids and several years after that it was difficult to find time for myself. I also was a member of the Y and used the child care but was always interrupted because the baby was crying. Finally, at the age of 42, with all kids in school I can now invest in me. My sister in law and I joined a 24 hour gym a week ago. I've been sick so haven't gone yet. I'm pretty excited to have a buddy and I love this site. We women invest so much in our families that we neglect ourselves. Whatever it takes find some "you" time.
  • I just did the first episode on the 30 day shred. And as predicted my daughter was all over me. But I worked up a sweat so I'd say it was better than nothing! I'm not sure how to add that in here for the exercise tab since it was all types of activities. Oh well. 6patch, I have a jogging stroller. I did well with it in the summer and fall but now it's too darn cold to take my daughter out too much. Thanks for sharing your frustration with kids making it hard. It is what it is I guess. I think if I keep doing the videos at home she will hopefully just get used to it and ignore me. If not I'll tr to do it while she naps! :)

Just started today myself. Logged on 2 years ago, but never did anything with it. Hope to do better this time. I am a stay at home mom too.

My baby also screams whenever I have to drop him somewhere new and that is one reason I have hesitated in joining a gym again. My hubby thinks we could take turns so one of us is always at home with the kids, but I feel like it is hard to find time to squeeze in that sort of lifestyle that coincides with a family life that consists of dinner at the table together, play time, homework, bath time, bed time routines....then dishes, laundry, and my "me" time of TV watching and reading. A supermom I am not, lol!

Log Jillian DVDs as circuit training - under the cardio tab (circuit is weights & cardio) .... most of her DVDs are this

If you're looking for something low impact (while kids are napping) ... try Leslie Sansone DVDs. Here's a youtube clip .... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WjduJjO1pLg&feature=related

If you want to try before you buy ... check out your library; they will have workout videos.

LOL--I do workout DVDs in the morning--usually the kids are asleep still. But, if I do one on the weekends when they are up, they are down there watching me and joining in at times. Last weekend, the weather was cold, so I was doing my Bob Harper DVD, and they asked why Bob was telling us what to do but not doing the exercises...made me laugh. Sometimes, even the cat joins in.
  • Hello. I am a stay at home mom of 3. Ages 1,5, and 7. I too find it hard to get any me time in and work out. Im hoping to get a gym pass within the next couple of weeks. I just cancelled my membership with WW because they were way to resrtictive and well there was no real support. This is my second go around with MFP,but this time its not about losing weight its about changing my life. The more support we give each other the better we will do :)
  • Thanks for the help in how to log the DVD! That's great!
  • Hey there I am in the same boat with you need to lose 50lbs just had my second child and just started here! Add me too ok!
  • Hello,
