Question about Heart Rate Monitor

One of my brothers got me a heart rate monitor for Christmas. There is a booklet that came with it about how to set it up and get baselines and figure out target heart rate, etc.

This is just a basic HRM. Does not have any computer apps with it. This is it: http://www.amazon.com/Timex-Mid-Size-T5G971-Personal-Trainer/dp/B000P8VWQS/ref=wl_it_dp_o_nC?ie=UTF8&colid=20L889TT2A2UW&coliid=I16BSAXJM5NC9T

My question is, should I be wearing it all day long or just when I'm exercising. The chest band is a little snug because I still have to lose quite a bit. In fact, I was shocked it actually fit, but I didn't know if wearing the HRM all day was better than wearing it just when you exercise.

TIA for any help on this!

Just when you exercise (cardio) Although It'll read your heart rate at any level, the calculations to determine calories burned are only accurate once your heart rate is somewhat elevated. (probably over 110)
