OK, this is about hair, but it gives you a boost to changes every now and then, so it could encourage more weight loss with a better way you feel about your self..

I have natural red hair. When I was a child to age 14, I was a darker strawberry blond.
About 14 to 25 I started changing with darker more auburn color.

Now that I am 36 and my body keeps loosing weight and I stay active and in the sun, with spf of course, I have blond, silver and white roots coming in.

Now the question is this. And I need some self esteem as well....

Has anyone ever used the highlights from loreal to do the root thing and the brush through streaking color??

I think it is called highlights??

I want to put more strawberry blond in my hair, more on the blond side so the new hair growing will blend.

As you can almost see from my picture, I have beed going darker and I hate it......

I used something (forget the brand, l'oreal sounds right) and I found it was difficult and maybe its best to have someone else do it for you if you choose to use the at-home highlights. I found that sometimes too much bleach comes out at the top and not enough at the bottom. Plus you will have to part each layer of hair and I guess its up to you if u want to use foil paper to separate but if u dont be careful to not touch your hair.

I wasn't satisfied with the result.

But if there is anyone out there that has, please post

I am a licensed hair stylist specializing in color and I will tell you DONT use it! This is one case where if you want it done right DON'T do it yourself. I can't tell you how many people have use it and I have had to fix it. Save yourself time and money and just got to the professional to have it done right.

Good luck and have a great day!

I have tried to highlight my hair several times and every single time I had to have a stylist correct my orange hair!!
I have finally given up and I will only let a prof highlight my hair from now.

I totally agree with this poster. When it comes to dying your hair you'll want a professional colorist to do it for you. If/when something goes wrong with your hair it'll demolish your self-esteem and you'll have to go to a stylist just to get it fixed.

This is doubly true when it comes to streaking your hair. You'll most likely do the wrong streaks, do them unevenly, do them really chunky, and you'll most likely be very unhappy with yourself.

Save yourself time and grief and go to a professional stylist.

Yup, I agree...let a pro do it. I've done my own highlights for 15 years with great results, but it's hard to mess up blonde hair w/ blonde highlights (although I'm sure it's been done) It's especially going to be nerve wracking if you have never done it before because it is not as easy as it looks and it will really show with darker hair if you make a mistake. Good luck to you!

My $.02 worth - go to the pro. Home hair color - not for the faint of heart.

You just have to know when you have it done professionally they are mixing the formula for you. The box may work for some but not all. When I mix a color I use a developer depending on your hair and the box only has one developer which may or may not be right for you. Play it safe.

I have started noticing a few silver hairs in my head and I am not ready to be gray so I asked my stylist and she advised highlights but she suggested the color and only she knows how to mix it. I hate to spend the money but I am not about to try it myself. Go to the pro!!!

Thank you all. I have done hair for 2 0 years, but only cuts and perms and regular box color. I am not a color specialist. I just went with the normal gray coverage I usually use and I will wait a few weeks to hit the salon for the highlights.
I never got my license renewed because I hate touching every one's head. So I stick with friends and family.

But like a few said, I would hate to use the over the counter highlighter and have a boo boo....

      :frown: :embarassed:

I think that is your best bet espically if you are going to color it first then do the highlights. My first thought is that the box color won't lift you past the orange stage. I could be wrong but 99% of the time I have been right and I have had to charge people way more to fix it then if they would have just come to me in the first place.

Let us know how it turns out!
