fruit - too much of a good thing?

Ok, just recently went on a camping trip over Christmas/New Year and even though I didn't drink wine and ate fruit, veg and fish, plus stayed away from bread and sugar (except what is in the fruit), I didn't manage to lose a thing. If anything I felt bloated and blocked the entire week.
The only reason I ate mainly fruit and veg was that it became easy meals for me, quick, handy and no need to cook. I did have a protein shake most mornings. I logged all the food while away and stayed within the cals, but still, nothing showed on the scales - I think there may have even been a small increase (I hadn't weighed myself for a while). And I didn't go over board with eating on Christmas day or the week before going away.
Question: even if I stayed within the cal range, is too much of a good thing bad?
