I am working my buttocks muscle to the max: gluteus, medius, maximus, minimus. My R hip bone aches but I can also can feel the burn on my gluteus muscle groups. I am currently doing ballet beautiful dvd with is compose of floor mat exercises with variations of alternating legs with lots of upward movement, butt blast is 30 minutes. I am shooting to do dvd for 30 days to see what results I can gain. I really want to work my buttocks muscles to have more definition as I realize i can not spot reduce. I suffer from arthiritis on my R knee with two knee surgeries due to torn ACLs. This dvd is perfect for mat exercise and less weight on my knee as oppose to lunges and squats. These move shifts my knees inward when attempting lunges, cursies and other variation of lunges which does not allow me have proper form. I completed BBL during the end of the summer which I did not get the best results after 60 days and my poor knees aches like....sh. I am hoping to get down 8 more lbs.I see many other complete dvd for more than 30 days. I walk for 80 minutes on Saturday and 80 minutes on Sunday and do a combo of push-ups and other abs workout.

Do you think I should take a break, once a week from ballet beautiful?
How soon should an individual change exercise routine?

It sounds like you might have strained something. Ease up a little, at least enough to reduce your pain, and yes having rest days are just as important as working out. Especially if your doing hard workouts on other days. Try cycling as an alternative, road cycling or Exercycle gets the same results for effort.

    We all need rest days.

Sounds like a tight it band. Try foam roller?

I just found this thread as I conducted a search for "Gluteus Medius." I know I am quite a few months late, but you sound a lot like me. I've had 4 knee surgeries (all on the same knee), 2 of which were ACL reconstructions. I've had on and off right hip pain for the past year or so and finally went to get it checked out. After an X-Ray and MRI, I was diagnosed with Gluteus Medius Tendinosis. It's not the same as tendinitis, as anti-inflammatories will not work. Tonight is my first sessions at PT for it. I'm sure you love PT as much as I do (sarcasm). But it's definitely something you should get checked out.

    Best of luck.
