Controlling blood sugar for the non-diabetic?

Good morning, all! I'm a 23 year old lady looking to drop a couple pounds and (more importantly) build myself some rational eating skills. I'm really bad at eating meals on time, and there's enough pre- and full-blown diabetes in my family to make me wary of letting my blood sugar get too wacky as I age. All the doctor's ever told me is to simply eat more regularly-- hm.
I spend the day feeling loopy and queasy when I've spiked and plummeted my blood sugar, so I'm aiming to plan meals better, record when I eat and how it makes me feel, and cut back on starch (it makes me SO sleepy and crabby). Hopefully with sensible tracking I'll be able to lose a bit of weight in the process!
Anyone else on MFP have similar goals? I would love to connect with you and hear your thoughts.
