Splurge Day

I've heard about the concept of a splurge day, but the science seems a little murky to me.
Basically the idea is that once every so often (a week, two weeks etc) you purposely blow your calorie count by like 500 calories, to keep your metabolism up or some such idea.
It doesn't really make sense to me though. It seems to me like the way to keep your metabolism up would be to eat metabolism boosting foods, almonds, cinnamon, cayenne pepper, etc
Opinions?

I think they're talking about a specific way to "splurge." It's mostly for people who exercise a lot (weight lifting) and it's called a re-feed day or carb cycling.0

Never worked for me. Life will occasionally drop a splurge day into your lap but if it is more than once every 15 or 20 days, you need to assess how you're learning to control the realities of your life. Weight loss is a long and slow process and is only as successful as you are consistent. Eat reasonable nutritious meals, respect your daily calorie goal, and exercise consistently and you're metabolism will be just fine.
PS: If you are splurging for your metabolism, make sure it is with extra lean protein and lots of vegetables. Splurging on junk to help your metabolism is always code for "I don't care, I am going to eat it anyway".0 -
It makes sense because your body starts to get used to eating fewer calories. It gets used to being in a deficit. Also, the claim of "metabolism boosting foods" is a dieting myth.0

The key is to stay under your maintenance calories. I lost a pound over Thanksgiving and two pounds over Christmas, while splurging on all the yummy foods, even desserts and candies. It works if you are consistently logging. When it doesn't work is for those who don't log those days.0

Seems to me like you talking about Leptin Hormone. Google it.
I do that. If you don't it lead you into a downward spiral there is nothing wrong with it imo.
