  • you can do it! you only need to take off half of what you have in the past! do it now cause 40 will be harder! maybe it will take longer then when you were 24 but I bet it stays off longer. think about what has changed since age 24? less active, children, work more? You can do it!
  • Hi girls....I just joined Fitness Pal today....I am not exactly over weight, but 20 lbs. heavier then I would like to be....I've always been energetic and in shape....I have 3 kids and love my life, but the economy has hit my husband and I hard...Plus the winter hasn't helped....Depression does not help you stay in shape and have the energy you need for your kids...I'd love to start hanging out here and hope chatting with others in my situation will whip me back into shape....Pre kids I was a fitness trainer, so who would think I would need the push since I was always the one doing the pushing....I am hoping we can help each other...I'm going to try to attach that ticker, but if you don't see it, will someone please tell me how the heck to get it on here...thanks...

Your body is outsmarting you, saving up some fat for the next big fast! Its pretty tough to lose more than 2 pounds of actual body fat a week...you lost nearly 4 pounds a week for 6 months with your dramatic weight loss. Its likely that you lost some lean tissue as well...muscle mass. Muscle is more metabolically active than fat ., so you may have slowed your metabolism a bit with this fast weight loss (especially if lost quickly and regained multiple times).

Remember, you're trying to lose fat...not weight. So try to be patient, grasshopper! Make sure you are eating enough quality food (at LEAST1200-1400 calories/day...more if you're very active) and work in some strength training a couple of days a week. Focus on building muscle and sloooowwweerr fat loss. You'll be a much happier camper when you're my age:-)

While I can't say this will work for you - this is what has worked for me since I started on this sight.

    1. Follow the guidelines the sight sets up for your calories and try not to go over - once in while is okay - just don't do it too often.
    2. Try to get some cardio excercise in every week.....even a short 20 minute walk every day will help to keep your metabolism fired up and will build some lean muscle.
    3. If you earn extra calories from exercise make sure you eat most of them so that your body won't go into starvation mode.
    4. Visit the forums and read what others are posting - You will see that you are not alone and you can get some really good ideas for recipes, exercise, and even just some plain old fun.
    5. And, here is the biggest one!!!! If you have a week that you seem to stall, don't get discouraged. My biggest downfall with other "diets" was that I would get discouraged when I didn't see instant results and then fall off the wagon.
