is 2 pounds a week stupid?

I decided to ease into the whole diet and fitness stuff with the target of losing a pound a week, but was planning to up to one and a half then two per week by Feb. However, i've since read many posts arguing that this is a bad approach.
Im aware that generally below 1,200 is starvation mode, but to lose 2 pounds a week my goal would be about 1,250 cals a day so is it still that bad?
having had very restrictive diets before (i am not in favour of them having put all that weight back on!!) I guess eating 1,500 ish a day (to lose a pound a week) seems a lot of food but i clearly went wrong in the past so just asking for a little advice getting on track to doing it the proper way this time!
thank you!

2 pounds a week isn't stupid for someone who has 100+ pounds to lose. If you have less then that to lose, 1 pound a week is better because it means you can eat a sufficient amount of food but still lose weight.0

I won't say its stupid. Its your choice and what might work for you might not work for me. I only have mine set to 1 pound per week. I have gone into this thinking I didn't gain all my weight over night so no rush on getting it off. I think setting it for one pound keeps me going since I don't feel so deprived. If going on strict diets hasn't worked for you maybe 1 pound per week would work. Good luck whichever way you choose.0

If you have 75+ lbs to lose 2 lbs/week is ideal,
If you have 40-75 lbs to lose 1.5 lbs/week is ideal,
If you have 25-40 lbs to lose 1 lbs/week is ideal,
If you have 15 -25 lbs to lose 0.5 to 1.0 lbs/week is ideal, and
If you have less than 15 lbs to lose 0.5 lbs/week is ideal.
Don't choose "Sedentary" just because it is a choice. If you have any kind of job or care for children, you are not Sedentary, Adjust accordingly. 1200 is really hard to adhere to, so why make it more difficult, or risk abandoning your plan because you can't do it?
