I've had a cold/flu this week and am desperate to get back running but am afraid its too son. So, when do you get back to running after a cold/flu?

If you have something in your lungs, you should not run until it is cleared as running will make it worse. Use expectorant to get that junk out of your lungs.
besides if you have junk in your lungs and tried to run you would do poorly.

I had the flu in December and it kicked my behind for nearly the entire month. I felt better so I went for a run which should have been 4 miles but ended up being 1.5 with a lot of walking. Just listen to your body - get out and walk or jog and see how you feel.

I'm a pulmonologist. I run with colds. As a matter of fact, I'm running with one now. Most colds involve the upper respiratory tract, not the lungs.

Whether or not you run depends upon the severity of illness. Use reasonable judgement, as we internet folk have no idea how sick you are. If you feel really crappy don't do it. If your symptoms are minor, then go for it (unless you have underlying lung disease; ie: asthma, COPD, CF, etc...)

My boyfriend and I had a slight illness (probably just a small cold that we got over quickly) but he tried to go running too soon. He did alright, but his breathing was horrendous and he'd stop every 10 minutes gasping for air. Listen to your body, you will know when you're ready. In the meantime, find something else to do for exercise.

I always find running really helps to clear out any remaining cold!
