Has anyone had success losing a substantial amount of weight (more than 50lbs) with a carb intake between 100-150g/day? I feel like carbs are always made to be the enemy, are they?

I lost, then gained, weight on a 6 month ketogenic (very low carb) diet last year.
Look, it was great for me to regulate my sweet tooth and concentrate on eating real food but when it came down to it there was no need to restrict anything if I maintained the energy (calorie) gap.
Nowt wrong, IMO, with using 'low carbing' as a means to cut the refined stuff and get some nutrient-dense food inside of us but there is no metabolic magic to it.
If you have underlying issues with processing carbs (Insulin Resistance) it's a good way to reset the body though.
Carbs are not the enemy, and this is coming from someone who spent a fair bit of 2012 reading up on the whole low carb/paleo thing.0 -
Of course and a lot more than 150g's. It really, really, really just calories in vs out. Saying that, we've got a nation that can't control how much they eat and if your one of those people and your appetite gravitates towards sugar, sugary things, fast food and processed foods, then you could be a person that needs to control their carb intake, and in that context a lower carb diet works like a charm. I lost most of my weight consuming 250+ carbs a day, which I consider a lower carb diet, considering my carb intake is lower than my protein. Do you have a problem with food?0

I dont really have a problem with carbs that I know of. No insulin issues. Im not much of a fast food eater. I wont lie i love my sweets but most of my carbs would come from greek yogurt, fruit, and whole wheat bread.0

No, but I've great success at 170-200 grams of carbs per day! :flowerforyou:0 -
I take 113g of carbs every day. I've been following a 1500 calorie diet where 45% comes from carbs, 40% from protein and 15% from fats. I have lost 35#, with about 20 left to go. Once I paid as much attention to the percentages, in addition to the calories, I really started losing quickly. I also exercise 5-6 days a week with 30-45 min of fat burning and 3x a week, I weight train.
Now, where carbs are concerned, I do stick to whole grains...ezekiel bread, quinoa and brown rice, corn, whole grain pasta (when I have pasta).
From what I've read and learned, your body needs carbs to function! That's where your "energy" comes from.
Good Luck!0 -
I've lost 100 lbs since the middle of May and I ate carbs on a daily basis0

I must say low carb is the only way for me, if I eat sugary carby things my teeth get all furry and coated, not nice. I try to do about 100grms, and that does me0
