they don't mention anything about Heart rate monitors.... which is why i am afraid to get one because i'm worried about it overestimating. i guess the watches are heart rate monitors but i mean one that straps around your chest. maybe i should just get one of those big machines and work out with it on my face all the time hahaha
  • Hmm. I use a HRM and eat my exercise calories. I've been losing 1-1.5 pounds every week since I started being honest and getting workouts in every day. I slightly overestimate what I'm eating just to be safe though. But it's been working for me, whether or not the HRM is entirely accurate. It can't be off by too much though, because I've been losing :-)

My HRM has a strap and gives a different count than exercise machines. Depending on the workout (hills vs. high resistance and such) it will be higher or lower than the machines. Also depending on how hard I'm actually working.... I recommend a HRM with the strap for accuracy. It's been working for me!

I think it's often said on MFP that the machines aren't exactly accurate. This is probably a big reason it's commonly recommended that people eat only 1/2 of their exercise calories.
