Okay. Long story short: I once lost a great deal of weight and have gained back about 3/4 of it and have decided to stop the crazy train and get rid of it for good. Yay.
After my dad passed away in the summer, I packed on the last 45 pounds of what I am carrying from emotional eating and I am done now, It's got to go. So...
On the 1st of the year, I decided to come to MFP and dedicate myself to weight loss.
Today is day 6. I was going to weigh in on Monday and will do an OFFICIAL weigh in tomorrow morning and log it and seeing results just makes me feel even more confident about my journey ahead.
Here is my question...just how much water weight can one obese woman be carrying? LOL. I know that initial loss is typically water weight (although I think those big losses need to be celebrated as well--after all--you have to ditch that too in striving for your overall goal...) I ask because in the past 6 days...I have dropped nearly *15* pounds. And I am NOT starving. While yesterday I fell really short of my calorie goal because of a crazy schedule and big event I had planned and had to run...the rest of the days I have been eating a good amount of calories (at least 1500)....

Just carry on, it will all level out over the next few weeks. As long as you're getting good nutrition and feel well it's all good.0

When I was heavier (255 lbs) and I'd start a diet I would easily drop 8-10 lbs in a week if I followed the plan. It helps to drink a lot of water to keep things balanced out...at least for me.0

A large percentage of the body is water, obesity decreases this (if you are clinically obese) whilst high sodium intake is likely to increase how much water you were holding. You also lose water from the muscles which is held alongside the fuel glycogen, depends how much muscle you have and how much fuel your body chooses to store (partly related to activity levels). Try not to lose weight too fast, how many calories you need depends on your weight and activity level, 1500 is not a one size fits all number. Be sure never to net under your basal metabolic rate, ideally don't cut more than about 500 calories a day from your total energy expenditure, you risk not getting enough nutrients.
Sorry to hear about your father BTW.0 -
Depending on my sodium intake this week, I expect to have lost around 13.5 pounds of water weight by next Saturday. My sodium intake correlates with my calorie intake, which correlates with my activity level. If your sodium intake is not as variable, you could lose the water weight in the first week or 2. Just remember though that if the scale climbs and you've been compliant it is just the water weight adding variability to your numbers.
My weight varies by about 5-6 pounds per day depending on sodium intake, muscle glycogen levels, and hydration.0
