Good vs. Bad Sugar?

I've been reading a lot lately about how some people believe that the sugars in fruit are healthy for you, while other people believe that sugar is sugar and should be avoided overall?
Any thoughts?

If you're healthy, don't worry about sugar intake. Worry about hitting your calorie and macro goals and eating a diet high in whole, minimally processed foods.

I have also been thinking this recently.

I don't really eat any processed foods but most days I go over my sugar limits set by MFP because I might eat a banana or two.

The whole sugar thing confuses me really. :-/

Consuming sugar raises your blood sugar which in turn causes an insulin response which then lowers your blood sugar and can cause hunger and cravings. If the sugar is consumed with fiber, protein or fats it will digest at a slower rate and not have as severe or an effect. The South Beach plan is based on keeping your blood sugars even throughout the day and in phase 2 (the steady weight loss phase) it allows 1-3 fruits a day (best eaten with protein) with preference to low sugar fruits, but discourages eating foods with added sugars. Hope that helps.

Bananas are very high in sugar. Apples are also high but you burn more calories digesting apples, therefore, it is good sugar. All fruit are good sugars
