Does loosing weight help with a Chronic cough condition?

I have had it for about 3 year or more. I do not smoke but after so many test and no positive results the doctors concluded that it had to be due to allergies, post nasal drip, or acid reflex. I am wondering if any one ever had it and cleared it by losing weight.

Any chance you're on an ACE inhibitor?
Is it worse at night or anything?
It's unlikely that weight loss would really help with any of the things you listed. Maybe a little with GERD, but that's usually more of a chronic throat clearing than cough. Do you have other allergies or symptoms? Did you doctor have you take claratin or something to see if it was allergies?0 -
This is something that I would think only a doctor could truly answer for you. It would make sense that the lungs would have more room to move so a diaphram would be less aggitated with weightloss. When I was much heavier - I coughed and puffed all the time - I am a smoker and have been diagnosed with COPD but with the weightloss I have noticed I have a larger lung capacity. I would recommend speaking with your physician about this possibility. :flowerforyou:0

I agree with the girls. You need to see a doctor that can give you a more definitive diagnosis. Get your family doc to send you to a pulmonologist (a lung doctor). Sometimes when you aspirate (inhale a foreign object into your lungs) it can go unnoticed for some time but still give you symptoms like asthma or coughing. Losing weight certainly helps with lung problems because your body has less tissue to supply oxygen to. But this is all theroretical. You need to see a better doctor.0

Thank you ladies!:flowerforyou: Yes I have seen a few doctors and other specialist including a pulmonologist and have had a chest Ct done. Then an allergy doctor and had many other test done. I also had a nasal Ct and have also been tested for asthma and so on... I wish my doctor or any other specialist that I have seen would have an answer but they do not.
I have also tried Claritin, Pseudoephed, different in halers, cough syrups, steroids, and different types of vitamins but yet none have been effective so I thought that maybe if I was able to loose some more weight that it would clear it up. I have it all the time. :blushing:
Thank you for your response. :flowerforyou: If anyone has anything to add please do.0 -

U had any luck with this? Especially with loosinh weight?0 -
I had a nasty cough for a very long time which defied diagnosis. It did turn it to be reflux, and losing weight and treating the GERD has gotten rid of it entirely. I did get a proper diagnosis though, and didn't just treat through diet. I do find that eating a lower fat diet does wonders for it however.0

How about a sleep test (sleep apnea)? It can dry out the throat. Losing weight can reduce or eliminate sleep apnea.
I had a chronic cough when I was on blood pressure medicine, a known side effect. Lowering the blood pressure and getting off the medicine got rid of the cough.
I'd think greater cardiovascular health from more exercise, especially walking, might help, but with the cough you should increase your aerobic exercise slowly so you don't irritate it.0
