Is it selfish to admit to being proud of yourself?

I joined this website on December 27th after feeling so miserable and upset with myself for what I had been eating over the holiday and how big I've let myself become. I have tried dieting several times over the years. The earliest I can remember feeling like I needed to lose weight was in 4th grade.. I have never had particularly high self esteem and hate to be anyone's focal point, and FORGET about being photographed. I would honestly rather eat my own hand than have my picture taken.

As of my last weigh in I have lost 4 lbs, cut out most of my refined sugar intake and more importantly started regularly exercising. I have never dedicated myself so thoroughly to changing my lifestyle and YES I am PROUD of myself. Everyone always says to be humble about your accomplishments, and although it's a small one, I really am proud of what I'm doing. I am getting healthy in a way that I know I can succeed in, and am EXCITED about exercising and discovering new healthy foods.

There's nothing wrong with that, is there?

No, it is not selfish! You should be proud!!!

I don't get why women are expected to be modest and ashamed of themselves all the time. It's more fun for everyone when we are happy!

You will find an easier time staying motivated if you celebrate your accomplishments. Feel free to shout it from the rooftops and take tons of photos. There is no shame in being healthy! Who knows, maybe your success will be an inspiration for others.

Who is telling you that it is selfish? Those are the ones who should be humbled, NOT YOU! Being proud of living a healthy lifestyle is what you SHOULD do -

Shout it from the rooftops! Maybe the ones who aren't taking their health seriously will learn from your positive energy!

I agree with everyone above. Stand proud! There is nothing shameful about taking control of your life!
