It is more of a lifestyle, but the diet part of it focuses mostly on whole foods, good quality meats, poultry, fish and other seafood, loads of fruits and veggies. The things you CAN'T have while Paleo is anything made with flour, sugar, any gluten containing grains (things like quinoa are usually OK) and any legumes. You are supposed to limit dairy to moderate levels. The rest of the 'lifestyle' focuses on moderate exercise, getting lots of sleep, doing things that make you happy, and keeping your stress levels low. I have been Paleo since June and I really like it, usually I'm about 80% good :P I LOVE it... if you are interested (i know it sounds hard, but once you get going you start feeling amazing) check out paleodietlifestyle.com for some great articles to explain 'why' you want to go Paleo. Marksdailyapple.com is another great resource, created by Mark Sisson, author of "The Primal Blueprint" and "The Primal Blueprint 21 Day Total Body Transformation" - books I definitely recommend! Mark's version is usually referred to as 'Primal' and tends to be a little more relaxed on dairy, which I prefer since I can't give up cheese haha. You really do get to eat incredible food that normally you wouldn't be able to eat while dieting. I've lost 18lbs on it (I got prego 3.5 months after starting so I stopped trying to lose) I feel great and LOVE that you can eat bacon and butter :P Friend me if you are more interested!

P.S. - since learning about the benefits of this lifestyle, once my goal weight is reached I will continue on this path and raise my children this way.

It's definately worth a try if you're serious about losing weight and gaining energy. I've been 100% Paleo since December 1st of this year and have dropped a total of 19lbs so far, just by changing what I put in my body. My ticker doesn't really reflect it because I stopped updating it for a long time, but I'm back at it mainly because I want to track how things go with this. I was at 205lbs, now I'm down to 186.5lbs. :)

Well, most cereals are grains. Unless it's Paleo Krunch, in which case it's nuts and seeds and a little honey.

    The focus is on eating:
    - meats (preferably grass-fed or pastured, otherwise lean)
    - vegetables (preferably organic)
    - fruits (in moderation, especially if you are trying to lose weight)
    - nuts, seeds
    - healthy oils (saturated, not PUFAs)

Some people eliminate dairy, others don't. Often you'll find people say they are "Primal" if they include dairy, based off of Mark Sisson's Primal Blueprint, which seems to be the most popular version of Paleo.

In general, it's selecting foods that have ingredients that are actually... wait for it... food, and those foods that tend to be more nutrient-dense than not. It's often low-carb, but doesn't have to be. Often people go lower carb to lose weight, but increase their carbs when they hit maintenance, and to fuel workouts.
