Hi All,

I'm looking for some advice.

I'm currently scared ****less by the reading of New Rules of Lifting for Women. Definitely need to make an appointment with someone at the gym to show me how to not hurt myself and explain what the exercises mean. But I figure at 38, this is the time to FINALLY build some bone density before I start losing it.

I also know that I rather suck at running. I would like to increase my cardiovascular health enough to comfortably run a mile or more. It seems like couch to 5K is the way to go for me. I tried one last year, but lost my motivation at about week 3. I have some thoughts about how to prevent that from happening now.

Here's my question... Will I be "overtraining" if I am doing NROL4W and C25K at the same time? Should I *not* do C25K on my "rest" days from lifting?

What order should I start these programs in?

Thanks for your thoughts.

C25K is an every-other day program. NROLFW has some built in rest schedule, too. You can do them at the same time! Good for you! They are both incrementally stepped programs intended to get you up to speed in a safe manner. C25K is not a strenuous program, it's 30 minutes a day three to four days a week....you're only training for 5K.

Thanks for your support and for not thinking I'm nuts to want to do both!

I'm guessing I should do C25K on my lifting rest days, and lift on my C25K rest days... not do both C25k + lift on the same day and nothing but walk the dog on a rest day?

I think that's what I would do, lift one day, run the next.

But you could do them on the same day.....NROLFW has upper body days and lower body days - just do the C25K on the upper body days, if you want. Really, C25K is not that strenuous to do, you should be fine. And you get to eat MOAR food. With both programs, go at your own pace, if you take longer to complete them, so be it. You won't be getting grades for this.

I would definitely plan one day off per week....dog probably wants to be walked every day, though, right?

Dog *definitely* wants to be walked every day. She gets squirrley after two days of no walkies (ask me how I found this out, heh).

    MOAR FOOD! YAY!

Gosh, I'm having a hard enough time eating the amount of protein suggested by the nutritionist at my doctor's office as it is (70g/day). I can't imagine how I'm going to get in MOAR protein.

Though, I guess if I get a higher calorie allotment, it should be easier.

ETA: Ok... commitment is getting closer. Just emailed someone at my local Y (I get a free memberships as a benefit for my work yay!) to find out how to get a weight room introduction.

Do the C25K outside, and take the dog - she'll love it, and be a much happier dog. I live on a trail, and lots of people run with their dogs.

    Good luck!
