What the heck? Getting Annoyed with Food Search

I went to log a beef roast today and found the same problem for every single entry: when i looked at the nutrition values for say, 1 serving of 4 oz, it would give a number like 200 calories, but when i entered the same thing except as 4 servings of 1 oz, the numbers didn't match up. why not?! it's the same serving size!

the same thing happens with other items... are people just not putting the info in correctly? how is 100 grams of something 300 calories, but 66 servings of 1 gram is 2900!!

I had to make a new entry just for my self after not being able to find an accurate entry for something. you might have to do the same

if i don't have a barcode to scan I will double check other sources such as livestrong. its a bit more work initially but then I have it in my recent foods. crowd-sourcing has its ups/downs.

Was it possibly the brand? Or we're you using generic? Most people put in the larger amount because that the way it is listed on pace. When in double create your own entry or use quick calories.

I also have found this to be true...I posted it somewhere yesterday....i was trying to log an uncured turkey frank, and the cals given were actually 120 higher than the pkg said...so I deleted my entry and looked again and found an entry that was correct...just keep looking.....

OH AND IT WAS THE SAME BRAND, AND IDENTICAL WORDING

I get frustrated that people don't put in the full nutritional info for foods- I want to know more than just calories and carbs! SPend ages looking for a good entry for some foods

it was that for the same food item, the same entry, the portions were off. so if an entry said 1 serving of 4 oz is 100 calories, but then you changed the serving option to 4 servings of 1 oz, that number would be totally different to the 1 serving of 4 oz.

I don't know why not, but I just do fractions of the first serving size that's available (eg for 6 oz on an original 4, I do 1.5 servings).

i have a math disability so bear with me!

so if you eat 6 oz of something, and the item in the food database uses 4 oz as a serving size, you just divide that?

Or add to it, yup :)

Because if 1.0 represents 4 oz, 0.5 is 2 oz, right? so you add the 0.5 to the 1.0 to get the total 6 oz.

My math has improved a LOT since coming here, haha

I don't know how or why things are calculated from people's entries down to 1 gram, I assumed it was something to do with MFP.
