The Insanity Meal Plan and My Caloric Intake.

My whole family and I have decided to start the two month long Insanity workouts, we're all pretty excited, but I'm a little worried about the meal plan. Insanity suggests that you eat at least 5 meals a day, all within 250-300 calories per meal and then there are ways to boost the calories up to 4 and 500 during month 2 when your calorie intake should be higher anyways. They give you an equation to find out what your calorie consumption should be, I'm short and petite, so naturally I had the lowest caloric intake in my family (I'm the shortest and weigh the least) with my intake starting at 1100 calories. I know that seems low, but it's quite healthy for someone my size. The equation factors in how active you are and that's how you arrive at your numbers. My issue is with 5 meals, all around 250-300 calories, I'm always going to exceed my calorie goal by a landslide it seems. I'm going to talk to my doctor and see what she says, but is anyone else doing either P90X or Insanity and running into this same issue?

It should just be a matter of slightly reducing the overall calories of each meal. 1100 / 5 is 220 calories, so to stay within the suggested calories and meal frequency, you'd just need to go with 200 to 240 per meal or switch to 4 meals at 250 to 300 and have a small snack if needed.

If you don't eat enough you will lose muscle mass and dehydrate. High intensity interval training and strength training can cause a significant afterburn effect, one study found twice as much fat lost as steady state workouts.

I would like to double check your insanity calorie stuff as that sounds extremely low for the program demands. What is your age, weight, and height? activity level? wanting to lose weight or maintain?
