Ok, so I can only give you what I did years ago when I first lost a bunch of weight. I was a 1L in lawschool, which is THE most intense year. I had put on 25 lbs over one semester(which isn't that uncommon for 1L's), and I just MADE myself eat healthier and work out. I would go to the gym right after classes, get a run/work out in, and then shower and go back to the library to study for the night. You just have to learn to make the gym part of your routine, especially if your Uni has an on campus gym, which mine did. The 2nd thing I did, was I stopped drinking for the rest of my 1L year, not a necessity, but it did help. By the way, I made law review that year, so if I can do that AND lose weight, you can too!

I'm a full time student (18 credits) married, 3 kids, house to take care of plus run the kids around to all of their activities. I've learned to plan ahead. Are you living on campus? If so then you're going to have a harder time due to storage problems. Try to pack healthy snacks to take with you and keep a bottle of water on you at all times. I bring celery, carrot sticks, sliced up cucumbers, and light string cheese with me when I'm on campus. It helps hold me over till I get home and eat a healthy meal. I hate campus food. Its usually greasy, fatty, salty and just flat out unhealthy. If I'm lucky they may still have a fresh fruit cup or salad in their campus deli but those are typically gone by the time I get there. As for exercise? I'm so busy when school starts that the most exercise I get is taking the stairs instead of the elevator and walking around campus. Write down what you eat whenever you eat it. Its easy to lose track of things. If your not careful you'll have a 2 or 3 slices of pizza, some donuts and cookies and not even realize it.
  • I'm a full time student at the moment. It can even be good, as it gives you routine! You have set eating times and it's near impossible to snack, just make sure you're eating healthy at those times (make your own packed lunch if the cafeteria food is a no go). I also swim really early on the weekends (6 am-8am) So that I still have the rest of the day to study/etc. During the week I swim in the late evenings, so after I've got all the coursework for that day finished (around 6-8:30 pm). Good luck!

Don't eat fast food. If you have to eat at school, carry your lunch or dinner with you. Don't buy anything out of the vending machines.

BRING FOOD WITH YOU TO SCHOOL!!!! Healthy stuff, then you wont be tempted to buy unhealthy food, and you will be able to stay full through classes while feeling great about your choice!
  • Thank you all :) I love the suggestions
I am actually living at home for my one year course, my campus is small so no gym or cafeteria sucks about the gym but i love not having the temptation of a cafeteria around. So you would think it would be pretty simple. but I wont have alot of time in the mornings and I have such a hard time staying motivated to do a workout at the end of the day but I love all of information you guys have given me I'm going to try to get in a routine and stick to it .

Full time grad student, work full time, married and two little kiddos here. It's f*cking tough to find that time to dedicate to work out when school is in session. I feel your pain. Just try and do the best you can do. It may not be the ideal amount of time you want to dedicate to working out, but it's better than nothing. Remember, school is only temporary and once it's over you can dedicate more time to it if needed.
