Help! Hyperextended finger

Towards the end of November (2012), I hyperextended my ring finger on my right hand, and no I didn't go to doctor because I thought it was nothing. So I tried to continue with my regular activities and weight training but ended up taking a break from the weights because I could not grip the bars on the weights. Thought I would give it a few days to heal and then it would be all good again. Well here it is over a month later, my finger and hand are still very stiff and continue to be swollen every morning when I get out of bed and stays that way most of the day finally going down almost just in time to go to bed at night. It is still painful to hold the weights in my hand and still somewhat difficult to close my hand but I can do it with a bit of warming up. My question is: Anyone have any suggestions as a way I can pad the weight bars so they do not put so much pressure on the affected parts of my hand. I tried to lift last week but after just a few sets my finger and had had swollen up even more and were extremely sore. Any suggestions would be great. I really miss my weight training.
