Starting Strength

I am starting the SS program this week in order to build muscle. I was wondering if any of you have done this program and if you have any tips or recommendations that aren't covered by Rippletoe.

I'm just starting as well...I think he's pretty comprehensive, but I'm curious about other's experiences as well.

Well I would look elsewhere for nutritional advice. Also I prefer the squat form shown in :So You Think You Can Squat" which can be found on youtube. Also you can still sub Pendlay rows for power cleans even though the book says it isn't a valid sub in bold letters.

Oh, and it isn't THE best way to build size, although it's pretty much the best way to build strength and will build some size if you eat enough.

I'm doing the Practical Programming version. I did my first three weeks last month, then had a rest/deload week last week - just to give my body a little break, and now I'm back on it. I'd definitely already stronger now than I was before - even after just 3 weeks on the program. Like FoW mentioned - I wouldn't necessarily go with his/their nutrition - especially not GOMAD. I'm set to gain 0.5 pounds per week, and cut 0.5 on my rest/deload week. In addition, I am trying to get some accessory and/or vanity lifts in, too, as time permits.

Just in case you haven't seen it already - there are different variations of SS listed/programmed on the link on this page: http://startingstrength.wikia.com/wiki/FAQ:The_Program
