green giant steamers?

I'm new to all of this but I mainly do easy things because I'm strapped for time and have 2 picky kids. Anyway, we started eating the steamers by green giant, carrots, broccoli and cauliflower with cheese; broccoli with cheese and the rice broccoli and cheese . They are fairly low cal but a lot of sodium. Is sodium bad too? I don't know how to steam broccoli otherwise because I suck in the kitchen. So suggestions are very much appreciated and welcome. I need help.

If you're concerned about sodium, you could skip the cooking process entirely and serve raw vegetables. Fresh tends to have more vitamins than cooked and, for obvious reasons, takes less time to make.

steaming vegetables could NOT be easier.

    1st - get something like http://www.amazon.com/Norpro-175-Stainless-Vegetable-Steamer/dp/B001FBCP7O/ref=sr_1_2?s=kitchen&ie=UTF8&qid=1357586039&sr=1-2

I got mine for $1 at a bargain store.

2nd - put it to use! cut up your veggies, throw them in, with about 2 inches of water underneath the steamer. the water should not show through the bottom of the steamer. put on a lid, or don't, steam for about 5 minutes, test to see if it's how you like it.

dump out the water, rinse the steamer, re-use! i rarely wash mine cause i'm gross.
  • Sodium is really bad, but I love those steamers--though I opt for the ones without the cheese. To steam any veggie is easy, though. And you don't need a fancy steamer. Go here for the quickest explanation I've seen--it's how I do it:

    Good luck!
