Anyone have any homemade natural weight gain shake recipes?

I am looking to boost my caloric intake along with good protein sources. I do not wish to drink store bought powders that are very pricey and often times loaded with a ton of refined sugars, etc. Does anyone have any awesome recipes that I could combine single ingredients in blender? Thanks!

Is there a reason you are avoiding sugar?

Ice cream + whole milk + chocolate sauce.

    You'll gain weight, for sure.

chocolate milk, a ripe banana, peanut butter, and honey

Are you opposed to ALL powders? You can get pure forms of protein at truenutrition. Nothing in their shakes that you don't want there. Other than adding powders, I don't know of any way to boost the protein content of a homemade shake beyone milk and peanut butter, but I really like milk and peanut butter.

I am not avoiding sugars.in general. But I try to stay away from processed foods as much as I can. I use honey and Agave. Also naturally occurring sugars in fruits. I am concerned with too much sugar intake leading to too much insulin produced. Not that I have a blood sugar issue.

Here is an example what I would consider to be a good shake.

    1 large banana
    1 1/2 cups milk
    2 tbsp peanut butter
(I like the idea of instant powdered oats)
Whatever other healthy fat, good calorie ingrediets I can throw in.

Based on my current routine, I am taking in about 2,500-3,000 calories a day. I am normally in the 2,000 range.

Whether you are losing weight or gaining weight, I try to follow a healthy diet. Whole milk, ice cream chocholate sauce, protein powder will lead to weight gain and muscle growth. But I don't feel that it is optimal for over health say if I did that daily. I wan't to be able to consume calories, protien in this manner and gain weight, without the concern of other long term health effects.

That sounds killer man! I will have to try and find powdered oats around here. I could probably make my own in the food processor. Just take instant oats then convert to a very fine powder I would assume. Thanks!

I think your concerns are unfounded but I'm not here to change your mind about it. Keep your surplus reasonable and hit your macros and train hard and you will minimize fat gain.

Good article on insulin here: http://weightology.net/weightologyweekly/?page_id=319

10-15% above TDEE would be a reasonable starting intake to bulk at.

No I am not..In fact I used a brown rice powder several years ago. It was mediocre. I will check it out. Thanks!

I have no specific recipes to offer, but Greek yogurt is higher in protein than milk. You could use that in place of the milk and add some fresh fruit for flavor. Sweeten it with Agave nectar or honey, as you wish. Of course, you can also add peanut butter, but there are other nut butters that you can use to vary the flavor. You may also want to do some research into coconut oil. It is supposed to have health benefits and it is high in calories.

    A few things I can think of that could be mixed/matched and thrown into a shake;

    cooked sweet potatoes
    Avocado
    Pineapples
    mangoes
    bananas
    spinach
    figs
    raisins
(any fruits and veggies would be good to add some more micronutrients but these ones are more calorie dense than others)

    whole milk
    ice cream
    Full fat greek yogurt
    frozen yogurt
eggs (depending on how you feel about raw eggs, or egg beaters...)
    liquid coffee creamer
    half and half

    peanut butter
    almond butter
    cashew butter
    walnut butter
    cashew butter
    coconut oil

    Oatmeal
    flax seeds
    cooked quinoa

I think I will look into purchasing a good clean weight gain protein powder. And mix in healthy whole foods like bananas, PB, flax seed, avocados, ground oats. etc. I figure as I am not looking to pack on a ton of weight I would think one 1,000 cal shake per day would be sufficient. I am currently 145 lbs and doing 4 days moderate cardio and 5-6 weight lifting.

I don't know where you live but in the UK myprotein do a 5 kilo bag of instant oats for around £10, and that lasts forever. I believe they have a US site also.
