I went with a belt from Rogue Fitness. It's a good quality leather, reasonably priced, and they actually size them small enough that it fits my waist.

I've never considered getting a belt.. I've heard mixed things like that it can make you not use your muscles like you should and rely on the belt ? I didn't look much into it though :) What are you going to use ti for?

For squatting, lunging and especially deadlifting a 75kg barbell. Its purpose is to prevent a back or a disc injury.

does not just sucking in and using your abs to stabilize your back do the same thing?

Use a belt in all your lifting sessions then slip a disc picking up carrier bags out shopping one day?

    Train those stabilizers!

    Wat?

Most only use belts when they reach near their 1RM.

Wat? - I'm sure I've seen folks wearing them for crunches!

    Thanks for the feedback!

I'm at the point where I'm lifting my 1RM and want to make sure I protect my back when lifting. I only plan to use it at that point- not in my daily lifting.

Really the typically accepted used of a belt is 85%+ of your 1RM, whether you're working to 5 reps or 1 rep. Don't be afraid to use a belt, trust me you train your stabilizer muscles plenty. Plus, it's okay to do a little ab work to help strengthen your abdominals. Even pro powerlifters do direct ab work, no crime in doing some abs, despite what some bro-science advocates on this site will tell you. Although you don't need to do a lot ab work when you do squats, deadlifts, etc.
