I'm trying to figure out how/what to log burpees as. I've set a goal to do a mile of burpees on my 40th birthday, which isn't for another 3 years so have plenty of time to get ready for it. So I have a LOT of burpees to do between now and then. How do I log them?

Burpees are the devil but I believe they are considered calisthenics. There are two choices under cardio for calistentics.
That's a lot of burpees. Good luck.
  • I'm not sure if it's sensible to actually log them.. perhaps record how many you do, but it's *difficult* to do more than 2 minutes of burpees. I find it difficult to do more than 15 of them at once. (But perhaps you're far more fit than I am).

Unfortunately, this means that you probably won't burn THAT many calories from them; perhaps 40 or so? But I still encourage you to do burpees; they're an excellent exercise.

Actually, according to Livestrong.com, a 150 pound person burns 563 calories doing an hour of burpees, but this isn't reasonable at all. http://www.livestrong.com/article/318485-the-calories-burned-with-burpees/

Perhaps you can do sets of 10 burpees, resting between each set of 10, for an hour, and then log this as ~400 calories? I'm not familiar with doing a "mile of burpees" or whatever; maybe you should log it based on how long you do it for.

According to this person, you burn "tens of thousands of calories" from doing a burpee mile, which takes about an hour and 45 minutes... :-P http://www.livestrong.com/article/318485-the-calories-burned-with-burpees/

Obviously, this isn't what you'd be doing everyday in preparation for your goal, no? I sure hope not. Anyways, good luck!

No Not going to do a mile every day lol I'm not in the best shape. I figure with 3 years to get ready for it. I'll do as many as I can every other day and build from there. I can't do an hour at a time yet. Once I can I'll go outside and start towards the mile. I think I need to get a calendar and log how many I do every day. I'd just like to keep track of them.
