Hello. I'm new here. I just downloaded the "myfitnesspal" app on my Droid on Saturday, after reading an article from Consumer Reports which talked about it. I don't know if this will work for me, but it's obvious to me that what I've done in the past doesn't work for me. I am significantly overweight. With medical issues surfacing of late, it's time to try and make a change.

Diets, to me, are about self-denial and giving things up. If I want to change, it has to not be about dieting but about changing life-long patterns. It has to be about getting a healthier attitude and outlook. And it has to include accountability, even if only to myself. It's just that up until now, it's been easy to delude myself...And up until now, I haven't known where to start. This app has given me an easy way to tally up calories, to know what my intake should be, to know what my exercise does.

I am cautiously optimistic at this point. For the first time I think I stand a chance against self-defeating eating and attitudes. So, I dip my toes gently into these uncharted waters...
