Sugar in fruits

I continue to go over my sugar intake everyday. The only time I'm getting sugar in (95% of the time..) is from fruits! And we benefit from most fruit! So is it ok to go over?? I am usually at about 40/30grams. I don't want to cut out fruits! Thoughts???

1. Do you have some medical reason for wanting to track your sugar intake specifically? If not, then don't worry about it.
2. You don't need fruit. It's tasty, and has all sorts of beneficial micronutrients and fiber etc, but "need" is a strong word.0 -
Perhaps limit your fruit intake to 1 or 2 servings and replace with protein or veggies Fruit is good for you but does have hight :natural sugar which can impede weight loss.0

EvanKeel, very good point, i shouldn't have stated it as "need". I just meant they have great benefits! My bad0

I'm having the same problem! Most of my sugar is from the bananas and strawberries in my morning green smoothie, but they help ease up the flavor of kale/veg + water so I don't want to give them up! lol I'm so glad you posted this, because I was just thinking about this as well...mainly because I wanted a snack so reached for a little grapefruit, entered it, and was alarmed that something so bitter had 16+ grams of sugar! Sigh.
I heard that sugars contribute quite a bit to chub in the belly which is why I wanted to keep an eye on my intake.0 -
If it is naturally occurring sugar and you are exercising at least 3 times a week then i say it is not a big deal. Have you ever had your glucose tested? I too struggled with deciding how much sugar I should have on a daily basis. There is a good article on livestrong.org about sugar... if you google "daily amounts of sugar" it should come up.0

This is quite interesting - I never thought about how much sugar I'd be taking in eating a "healthier" diet of fruit. Also keep getting told off from my dentist because of acid erosion from fruit juices etc. This is a hard gig trying to be healthy while cutting down on sugars etc!0

Try eating berries and kiwi fruits. They have less sugar in than other fruits.0

Loads of threads on this. Most official guidelines worldwide are to eat far more veggies than fruits, if you adhere to this you likely won't eat an excessive amount of natural sugars. If you are still bothered eat more low sugar fruits like berries, red and black currants, grapefruit. Limit or avoid juices, they have the sugar concentrated and the valuable fibre removed.0
